Do you ship out without any tools?

I’ve seen this posted somewhere, but can’t find it quickly, so I’ve posted the original.

You mean my post on the first page of this thread maybe? :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

That’ll be it Coffee, I looked all over the place trying to find it, except for the first page of this thread  :unamused:

i carry the basics, jump leads, spanners, spare air lines, spare leccy susies, bulbs, jacks, adjustable spanners,wd40,a big hammer for adjusting things that dont wanna be adjusted, engine oil, antifreeze, window washer fluid,a big bar for getting wheelnuts off and a mobile phone in case it all goes ■■■■ up! a mecanic i aint but i,ll have a go,and the load will get where it needs to be…

I ran out of fuel at the last peage on the border, heading to Irun, the Guardia Civil border guards took me to the garage to fill jerry cans and brought me back to the truck, and no fine for running out of fuel. The gauge on the dash read that i had enough, but going down hill,it must of slopped back and ran dry, every driver has run out of gas at some point.

I have once swapped trucks with another driver on the road gauge showing between quarter and half ran out 10 miles up the road on a roundabout. Luckily near our yard 10 gallons of fuel and a can of easy start later I know but the cab pump didnt work later we was rolling

I have worked for many firms where the trucks fuel guage was in-op,a trusty length of wood to dip the tanks,or grab some foliage or a branch from some oap`s garden.

Another reason for carrying a tape measure, you can get an exact dip, although much easier with a rectangular tank then a D shape or round one, and it saves getting rotting leaves and bark blocking the stack pipe

By working out the volume,or airline pilots measure their tanks in weights,as in so many tons of fuel for reserve or going in to holding patterns, round and round until it is your time to get in.A few have crashed, while mis-calculating kgs, pounds, usa and european differences in weights, human error,a Columbian hit a mountain, due to his poor command of the english language,he failed to get the point across to ATC that he was running on fumes.Si senor, estoy muy bien, nada de AV gas, problemo.

Probably didn’t know about the ‘trusty length of wood?’

I have seen drivers carve out measurments on their dip stick,to see how much diesel is left in the tank.

always bring a spare unit pulling a tanker so i never encounter the problems you boys are going on about

Always carry full kit of tools and plenty of spare bits and pieces, got me out of trouble on numerous occasions, have even changed a gearbox in Portugal after buying a s/h one off a breaker, all in I was back on the road for €1100.
Wonder what it would have cost me to get towed into a garage and have a grease monkey do the job?

Jubilee clips were ideal, and sometimes bits of junk left at the roadside may get you out of trouble.

does 80% of the drivers lounge count

My toolbox is full of nuts, bolts, washers and stuff I find laying about. And on at least two occasions it’s got me out of trouble.

Im a new driver, 23 years of age and even i carry the most basic tools.

In my day bag i cram in

Tape measure
Zip ties
Side cutters
Phillips/flat
Allen keys
Torch
Mini hammer
Mini pry bar

I havent had to use any yet, and as a new driver i dont travel Europe either. But should a basic fault arise, i’d like to think i could possibly fix it or at least have a go. We might be “drivers” but surely the job doesnt end just there?

Ben

never mind euro work, even doing uk work any driver with a bit of common sense would carry at least a basic emergency kit, considering you could be at the side of the road for somthing as daft as a blown fuse, how long does it take to change an electrical suzie compared to waiting for someone to arrive with a sprare

toby1234abc:
Be honest, what are the tools to take while away in Europe, stockings to put on the tank filler cap,to prevent dirt going in the tanks,if in a dodgy country that sellls dirty fuel.
Does anyone go out with no tool box?Adjustable spanners, mole wrench, clamps, basic stuff to get you home again.

Toby,we have 2012 :bulb:

And dont forget the boiler suit to keep the tidy clothes clean.

When the hard weather kicks in & these guys breakdown in the midst of nowhere they are dead meat in those heaps of metal in the snow. You must be able to getting yourself out of trouble or drive in UK in the summertime months.
