On sale at the Retro Show today.
Totally agree Muckaway, a great magazine. I think Heritage Comm mag dropped a big one when they stopped their classic section. The kelsey stall in the inside gallery was selling them like hot cakes (at £2.00 a bargain). He looked nearly sold out when we passed in middle afternoon.
What’s happened to CVC?Toda and last week I couldn’t find it in WHSmith. Maybe a new issue is imminent? Not too bothered, but it wastes 5 minutes of shopping time to read it.
Finally tracked down Classic Truck and bought the second issue.
There’s some howlers in there, not least the two time mentions of a 205hp ■■■■■■■ M11. That was enough in my Dad’s day I guess though.
I buy them on occasions, but feel they’ve gone a bit stale/repetitive at the moment. Opinions please…
I get Heritage,Classic Commercials and Vintage road scene and every now and then theres something in to suprise me.Got the latest Classic Commercials delivered today and there was a 1949 Mammoth Major and drag from Henry Longs (ex BRS)that my dad drove for 3 months when his was in for its first m.o.t.I showed him it and he even told me where it had been loaded at (Courtaulds Greenfield) so i would say yes they are still worth buying. There
s always someone who as a picture you wanna see
I buy Heritage Commercial every month, some issues better than other’s of course but generally pretty good.
Pete.
Some of the letters/memories are a bit snooze inducing…I find what’s on here more interesting There’s getting too many ads in mags thesesdays and the CVC paper quality’s a bit too much like school bog roll for my liking.
I think some of the letters are a little far fetched to be honest with a bit of fiction added to make em more interesting,I think Peter Davies puts some great photos in the on a regular basis,i`ve got a few of his DVDs
I like Peter Davies pics too, especially 80s and 90s as it brings back memories of school hols and in 1996, GCSE “Study Leave”. In the passenger seat of an L reg Foden 3000 series 8 legger
I buy classic commercials every month but am peed off that the quality of the colour pictures has gone now that they use poor quality paper throughout the mag

Quite agree - I cancelled my long time subscription to C+VC earler this year as despite the editor assurring readers via a letter reply that there would be no drop in paper quality, within 6 months it had become printed on 100% cheap paper. The classified adverts were getting less and less historic commercials and more and more caravans, 4x4’s and american cars. It also seems to feature the same people over and over again!!. To cap it all they then sent me a reminder telling me that my subscription was going up by over 10%. Heritage Commercials on the other hand does seem to be consistent with the quality of articles, and that lesser known quarterly Vintage Roadscene is well worth a read.

I’d agree to a certain extent, but every now and then, as others have said, theres something that really grabs my attention and interest. I find anything pre-1960 of minimal interest, but then thats probably because I wasn’t born until 1961. Fortunately, there seems to be a growing interest in lorries from the 70’s and 80’s, and this is being reflected in the articles in the magazines.
Perhaps a greater number of contributors would give the magazines a breath of fresh air, and maybe some of the regulars on TN may have suitable information/stories to relay.
I recently wrote to Commercial Motor, suggesting that it would possibly enhance their publication if they could include within their pages road-tests from previous eras.
I’m sure some of us would enjoy the reminisance, as well as the opportunity to make a comparison with today’s products.

The letter was published, and the editor asked for others to respond, to see if there was sufficient interest. At least one response (favourable) was printed, so i’m hoping the magazine pursues the idea.
It’s easy to e-mail them, so any further correspondance may help convince.

: Some of the old truck magazine test matches would would be great to see again
I used to by Truck, and T&D (although I found the latter a bit simplistic…)
I buy the odd one these days, but my place has so many motorbike mags lying around that my trouble & strife might have something to say if I buy too many.
I prefer this site, loads of info, loads of pics and you can ask questions and get a response without having to wait for a couple of months…
