I think they do. CVC has the same motor on the front of their July issue that Heritage have on the cover of their July issue. Gowler’s Leyland Comet.
i do like the peter davies “on a roll” features. but for me the best lorry mags were the old Truck magazine when pat kennet was in charge.also had the excellent phil lewelyn long distance diary every month.superb.
Evening all, what ever happened to Phill Llewellyn?? He really did capture the atmosphere of the job, anybody know■■? Cheerio bye bye.

He died of a heart attack in 2005 whilst on holiday in Croatia. In a reader’s obituary published in The Guardian , Frank Page, the journalist, described Phil Llewellin as "one of the best motoring writers, if not the best, of the past four decades
Thanks Dave, that makes me very sad, I didnt know, he was a Shropshire lad, I met him a few times with Pat Kennet, and had many laughs. His style has been copied, but never been beaten. Cheerio for now.

I found it on Wikipedia. After reading the posts referring to him.I looked his name up.
Cheers Dave.
I read the article today in Hcoms about the Browns of Wem F reg Strato; One of the most interesting articles I’ve read in a truck mag for a long time. Just the era of “oldies” I like

Here it is at Gaydon last year Nathan.
It was there this year aswell Dave. It also goes to Fairford rally in August. I liked the fact it’s in working condition, slightly faded signwriting and the cab photo looked like there’d been no more than a wipe with a rag. Mine’s slowly going in that direction

It must have gone when we got back up to the parking area Nathan. They must load thos tractors on it every show.
Cheers Dave.
Just got back to the site to catch up after a short break and like others I see this subject is still prominent and posts mostly negative towards the two main classic magazines. I have to agree with what others have said, I am seriously thinking about ending my subscription to CVC which has become very lacklustre, featuring the same old, same old (excuse the pun) and now even the same motors as HC has covered. Also as much as I like Atkinson Borderers I don’t think I could muster the interest to read another article on one so soon after another.
A couple of years ago at Gaydon I had a good look at the Seddon of Normans, and spoke to him about the restoration which he was glad to tell me about and I later thought this would make a good article for CVC, I later discovered it had appeared in HC a year or so before but I wasn’t buying that mag then. I presumed it would eventually make CVC’s pages, but not to date. I feel HC has the edge over CVC and the technical articles such as the Commer TS3 and others add interest especially to those of us that have had mechanical as well as driving experiences in the industry.
I’m not sure I want to know about cafes or the obscure vehicle makes from around the world and even looking at pictures of heaps of scrap in a field in a foreign land, some might, you pays your money and takes your choice but I think a couple of more issues then I’ll be making a decision and saving a bob or two. Franky.
We’ve just been on holiday, across Canada’s Rockies by train then from Vancouver a cruise to Alaska and look what I took to read in bed. A bit sad maybe but could this be the furthest that a copy of Truck and Driver has travelled? Regards, Haddy.

Here’s another photo taken at the Leyland day last year.
Around 1975 I met another driver in a cafe in Leman St. Aldegate ( E. London ) having an early morning brew. He was telling me that he had written a short story for “Truck” magazine to be published the next month. He wouldn’t tell me what it was about except that it was fiction. Sure enough the next month there it was and it took up two or three pages. It was a ghost story about a driver who stopped to help another change a wheel, or something like that, I can’t remember too much about it. Anyway this story was loosely based on the song " Phantom 309 " and I wondered if anyone else can recall reading it. I’m pretty sure Pat Kennet was the editor of “Truck” at the time.
One of the first pages I would turn to in the same magazine was a regular feature called " Looking back with Pat Kennet," about the the days when he was a field engineer for Leylands and travelled to far away places to sort out any problems that customers had with trucks and buses. He would always add a little humour to each story. Regards to all, Haddy, Gt.Yarmouth. PS I’ve just remembered the author of that story called himself “Jock” something or other.
I’m really bored with those “my mistake” stories in Trucking; You waste time reading them only to discover there isn’t a “mistake” just another load of wartime rambling, Uncle Albert style. Should be dumped in CVC where nobody would read it…along with those “Connors Cruises” (should read “Yet another load of crap about army vehicles”)
Jesus Christ, CVC hit an all-time low; Absolutely nothing of interest whatsoever in this months’ new edition. That editor waffled as usual, with the same pic of himself looking puzzled (about why we think his mag’s crap), and what seemed an ever increasing number of features on lorries seen abroad (and not Malta or somewhere interesting, usually France). A to Zzzz is still going (WHY FFS IT’S THE MOST BORING THING SINCE YOURS MAGAZINE). The classifieds were pant wettingly bad; some ■■■■■■ put under the heading FREIGHTLINER a Sherpa pickup
along with usual £10000 for a rusty heap of scrap. Even the PD on a roll seemed repetitive. I didn’t even buy HComs this month, that didn’t seem to great either, although I did buy Trucking as it featured 2 tipper firms from around here Keyway and J Mould.
Oh, are the CVC road run ics actually taken at the run, or are they rehashed from previous articles? They all look familiar…

hi nathan,
with regard to cvc,i totally agree with you.i haven’t bothered renewing my subscription.it has “really gone off the boil”.
regards andrew.
Yeah I’m of the same opinion with CVC, I’ll be knocking it on the head. I was annoyed with the latest issue, yet another Atkinson Borderer article, now I like these motors as much as other blokes do but when a guy like John Norman has had to send in a pic of his restored Seddon to attract some interest from the Ed of CVC, who replied by saying nice pics John can you send in some more! Not we’ll get down and do an article on this nice restoration then something tells me CVC are only interested in certain makes and types and can’t be bothered with the less attractive makes. There are also too many foreign motors included in the pages for me too, this might be because the classic Brit vehicles CVC are only interested in are becoming exhausted or they think they are more appealling, sorry not for me I’m ‘chock up ti tash’ with Scania’s and Volvo’s which no doubt will be the only makes that we will see regularly. Not worth the price anymore and that editors comments get on my nerves! Franky.
Journalism on the cheap…
Rather than send a photographer and/or a writer down or up to see the lorry just get the owner to send in some pictures instead, chances are they will be poorer quality as they are people not used to taking photographs.
Once the pictures arrive give the owner a quick ring from the office to get the details.
It could be a question of economics but at least Nick Larkin got out and about at the shows (saw him last Sunday getting very excited over buses). And he wasn’t the most popular.
