It’s looking like the only people who have anything good to say is the people who are coming up to retirement and the truth be told they would put up with anything
Or i hate them but money is good or the job is easy and money is not enough or i will put up with anything because i don’t have long to go
I would love to know what [zb] these people put up with all there life in this job it reads like they all had [zb] jobs and worked for minimum wage
Youre barking up the wrong tree there matey. I
m coming up for retirement. No mortgage, no HP, no kids at home. No real need to turn in if I dont want to. Many of us oldsters have had a chance to find what suits us, so maybe that
s why we aren`t all moaning.

Put up with ■■■■ all my life in jobs?
Say anything good?
Older drivers?
Well in my case I’ve had about 4 jobs in the last 25 years or so since I finished on my own,… so not too bad an average compared to many.
One job I was there for 10 years, excellent firm, well paid who looked after me, treated me like a grown up, we were all part of a team so all worked together…so zero ■■■■ there,
1 Dutch firm…plenty of ■■■■ so I left.
1 Belgian firm, again excellent job, maybe the best I’ve had, deffo no ■■■■.
This one…, actual job I do is fine, I like it, but it’s a ‘‘Them and Us’’ type firm rather than a ‘‘Team’’ firm. …
Plenty of crap filtering down from head depot and compliance guy, continuously treating us like kids, no difference made between d/heads and the proper drivers, and plenty of ■■■■… including cameras and the like…
But I still give 100% to what I’m paid for as I have all my career, but nothing more over and above because of the ■■■■…, and the words ‘urine’ and ‘fire’ is the way I feel about them…
Which was the whole point of the question in my o/p
Do i like the company I work for? The best I can come up with is that I don’t dislike the company I work for.
I definitely like checking my on line banking every Thursday morning though! The main problem is that it’s a massive and unwieldy company that sometimes loses sight of its whole reason for being, which is basically storing and moving stuff from A to B and gets caught up in sideline activities.
Like any massive company we have rafts of middle management who are not smart enough to have a positive financial impact on the company but are smart enough to realise that they have to justify their wages by being seen to do something, hence we are subject to countless edicts from upon high telling us what we are doing wrong.
I know how to play that game though and merely keep my head down for a few days until it’s forgotten when a new edict is rolled out. Thankfully we don’t suffer from in cab cameras (with the exception of forward looking ones) as our big boss has stated on many occasions that the cab is “our space” and he’ll only fit driver facing cameras on the day that every office has them and every computer monitor has them filming the user and every computer is monitored to see what the user has been doing.
I like the company I work for and hopefully it’ll see me out (I’m 54). It’s a supermarket job so not for everyone as it involves doing my fair share of weekends but I only work 4 days a week and with holiday/lieu days that equates to 172 days a year on with 193 days off so work balance favourable definitely, we have good kit, good terms and conditions and an excellent share save scheme, not pushed and spoken to with respect and dignity. It’s the same start time every day but I always have the option of changing my start time or shifts or even reducing my hours.
We have forward facing cameras but our driving habits don’t appear to be monitored or if they are nothing ever gets mentioned about them.
Another thing I like is that there’s one big office for the whole depot and even the GM and TM of the depot all sit in this office and it’s one big happy family basically.
The only down side it’s definitely a bit mundane and there are times when I earn for a bit more excitement but the good points far out way that, I’ve been here just over 4 yrs now and have not even looked at any other jobs in that time. I’m also directly employed by the supermarket (Walmart).
Mm difficult one. Some days yes other days I want to go postal on them . The thing is I know I’m treated better than some as it’s the bosses own truck I drive(the other two bosses have personal trucks on the fleet) so I get the gravy loads . I still get grief over keeping my fuel tanks full , as I said I have no intention o dying o hypothermia in a freight liner after I’ve ran out o fuel in a three day storm and going back in lineup to put 500lb lysine / grain more in my trailer. My boss went mad after I said I’m away till 2nd o march on holiday. And mind sort the gearbox before I’m back . The boss also knows I know what the specialized loads I carry pay so the can’t afford rise etc don’t work . Limiter set at 72mph do my two rounds and load for the following Sunday afternoon home on Thursday older non emission merc engines truck phone email when empty paperwork sent by email to printer in truck . . Only one BIG problem is the one man banks working winter for truck payment is killing the old established haulers and I recon I will be looking again later in the yr james
Not quite as much as I used to; the company itself has got more corporate, audit-driven and full of pointy-shoed graduates who who talk in management-speak and know the square root of nowt about what we do, and the kit we need to do it. The job is a fair bit more than just being a steering wheel attendant, but that’s all you’re encouraged to be now.
Still a decent job, and I’d struggle to match the pay/pension package locally; but I’ve gone from not bothering to look at “situations vacant” at all, to actively checking out other firms. Not a good sign.

Can’t really agree with this. I suppose I’m coming up to retirement (I’m 60) and like most of the other drivers of my age on the agency I can afford to pick and choose what work I do, as opposed to younger drivers who have crippling mortgages to pay and children to raise, these seem to be the ones who have no choice but to do the barrel-scraping jobs.
Work for a global corporation on own account work , loathe the business ethics with a vengance as it’s all shareholder based , typically . Been with them 12 yrs and on my 12th immediate boss , like working for a communist regime where no matter how good you are if your face doesn’t fit you’re history .
Job is great , 4 and 4 , top dollar , so I liken it to being semi retired already .
