Cars overtake you just before the roadworks where there’s only one lane available and then slow down to 10mph below the speed limit even if there are no people working (nights) and proceed to hold you up for the entirety of the roadworks? Or on a single carriageway they’ll squeeze past at a roundabout or perform an illegal overtake or overspeed to overtake you but then again only do 40-45mph in front of you forever, or slow down even more right away because they’re looking for that side road they’re after?
It happens to me at least once a night, I hate it and I know there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s not that I’m rushing it’s just why are drivers behaving so irrationally more irritating to me and that I have to now slow down for no good reason never mind the sudden harsh brake in front followed by a signal 10ft before they make the turn
Apparently, because car speedometers can be 10% out, drivers they don’t realise they are going slower than the limit. So they see 50mph but are actually doing about 46 ish. HGV speedometers can only be 2% out due to regulations, so we are usually travelling at a more accurate speed.
I’m not 100% sure that this is true, but it does make sense, and seems to be the case when I’m in my car, as the satnav speed also seems to show I am going slower than the speedo shows. This could also explain where the much-quoted ‘10% leeway on speeding’ comes from.

Could be but I always coast before roadworks - I know where they are and what the speed limit is for each so I’l coast down to the appropriate speed as I’m entering which means I’m at 40mph they’ll overtake then slow down as soon as the lane closes off; one reason is they know it’s an average speed check and now having sped they want to go slower to average down their speed to below the limit before the next camera. However they forget to bring their speed back to ‘‘normal’’ no matter how much I try to…how shall I put it - ‘remind’ them

Of course it can be irriating but usually just to those than don’t like to slow down. You know the ones that disregard the limits and can’t tolerate those that stick to them.
Be irritated but don’t do what some do and harass the slower driver by driving too close. They are the ones that get all truck drivers a bad name and on occasion they cause a serious accident.
Just remember they make very little time difference to your journey. Ease off, relax and enjoy your drive.
It’s my ultimate pet hate (as well as not indicating on roundabouts). I like to cruise through at 50 (if the limit is 50) using cruise control. So when some muppet nearly kills himself trying to get in front of me, then slows down to 40ish, or even 36, 37, 38 I find it very irritating. Seems to happen all the time. I’ve learnt to let it go to an extent, and I sit quite far back, but I’m not immune from how irritating it is.
jakethesnake: having sped they want to go slower to average down their speed to below the limit before the next camera.
Average cameras don’t work that way. They will get caught.
Of course they work that way…it’s time and distance between 2 or more cameras…how do you think they work?
It’s not quite as simple as it sounds but from what I have heard if you don’t know exactly where the cameras are and the trigger points it easy to get it wrong.
Generally a couple of mph either way is never a problem but start doing silly speeds and then suddenly slow down to make up for it can go wrong.
It happened to someone I know and now she sticks to the limit like glue now.

’ [ remind them '] like blasting your horn and flashing your lights ?, how professional , so 50 mph doing 46 mph , ffs get a life .

funny you mention HGVs, what about PSV ie coach but have tachographs installed?
With reference to cars, here is the fomula that is used to regulate the showing instrument speedometors!

Can we please stop throwing waiting room rumours with out legal documentation around?
I think you forgot to mention the test equipment can have a accuracy of +/- 0.5% and there are variables to take into account, tyre size, tyre pressue & temperature. All have an effect on the true speed (V1) of the vehicle.
i find that laughing out loud is the best way to deal with Anything like that-and keep on laughing out loud . If im really lucky whoever has done the dirty on me will glance over [expecting an angry face] and their expression is priceless.
Here in the Midlands happens every 10mins I just clap my hands, I leave a 2second gap and someone steals the spot so I reduce my gap to 1sec and again some muppet steals it, I reduce it to half a second and yes someone has there left indicator on when we’re at the 300yard (1mile marker give them plently time)marker …and they will force there way in, I’m not a ‘hunt’ and don’t want to have a avoidable crash
I just clap and say we’ll done and back of now or il just use adaptive cruise
TruckDriverBen:
Happens once per trip OP? Where do you live?
I drive nights so not as much traffic. I want to go on days eventually but idk if I’d be able to cope…Mind you I get back around 6-630 am so I do get a taste of it

So you admit to being completely unprofessional. You need to chill out more.
As a matter of curiosity when you are driving your car do you do the same to unprofessional truck drivers?
