Do you hate being brake checked?

Sure we all won’t need to worry about been brake checked because Mr doctor dolittle says it will all be automated pretty soon anyway

Would be better if you spoke English fella!

Only ever happened to me a couple of times. One I’m 100% sure was an insurance fraud attempt, the other was someone who got the arse ache after they failed to realise that the motorway was being filtered down to one lane, ended up between me and the cones which was apparently my fault and they tried it on a few miles down the road.

Rest of the time, I’ve never given anyone a reason to, or if i have, i just apologise and let it go. Why people get so worked up is beyond me.

You are one tedious prick.

Lets think of everything that winds up a truck driver and post incessantly about it.

Quite right SMB, No not about you thinking I am tedious but about winding them up. Believe it or not I have driven trucks most of my life probably when a lot on were still getting their backsides wiped for them and I despise bad driving especially from big bully boys so Yes I love to wind them up. Only problem is they never admit they do wrong but strangely I see them on the roads everyday. Its always someone else’s fault or they have a pathetic excuse or more commonly they do not answer.

its the whackiest thing to do; so you see someone in a 44 ton truck who you don’t think is a very good driver, you then decide to get in front of this crap driver in your little car then unexpectedly brake violently ? if you’re correct and they are not a very good driver then you’re dead. Very strange thing to do.

about the same weight difference as a little woman going head to head with a charging white Rhino.

And then someone comes here criticizing the lorry driver and says absolutely nothing about the idiotic car driver who does the brake checking as if there’s nothing wrong with it.

Sent from my mobile.

harrawaffa:
They get one chance doing it in front of me. Try it again I’m going over the top of them. All recorded on my dashcam and I’ll have no worries handing it over to the authorities to show how much of a clown they were in their final moments.

I do agree but wouldnt go over them myself as my bumper paint is too precious. Usually though a 130db blast of the TGV train horn is enough frighten most out of the way… :grimacing:

dozy:
to be honest most people are more interested in looking at my trucks name , fleet number and waving at me than brake testing me , it is one of the perks of working for this company , everyone loves us ( HGv drivers excepted :unamused: )

years ago…2000…when driving for said company you would often get a car pull in front and slow rapidly to check the name on the front of the truck…thats why they started putting the name on the door aswell .

Some silly cow did it to a mate of mine, she overtook him, and literally swung back in and braked…and she lost control.
The car was veering all over 2 lanes until she managed to correct it.
Stupid cow could have killed herself trying to make a point. :unamused:

You all seem to be missing my point or maybe you are ignoring it.
As I said originally most brake checking is caused by aggressive drivers tailgating.
If these bully boys kept a safe distance most of the problem would be alleviated and everyone would be happy!

If I am wrong pehaps you could explain why?
Go on prove you have an opinion instead of childish insults.

The only thing that causes brake checking is an idiot pressing the brake pedal.

You are partially correct. Brake checking is caused SOMETIMES by tailgating but you’re wrong to say mostly.
Besides, brake checking is always wrong and never justifiable. If im being tailgated by anyone, especially an hgv, I lift off the accelerator gently and slow down gradually.
Banging the brake on is the stupidist move to make, even if you feel you are in the right.

Although im not 100% convinced you arent on the wind up given how easily some people on here bite
That being said though, some of the responses given on this forum, by posters who are being genuine, to road safety issues like speeding does make you wonder how these people, and anyone unfortunate enough to share the same road space as them, survive

Brake checking/testing/death wishing isn’t just limited to those in front of tailgaters, let’s face it any member of the snowflake/entitled generation who feels another road user has caused them an issue is a candidate to do something stupid.

Course blame can be laid at the feet of the aggressive vehicle but it’s not personal so why do so many road users use suicide as a point making method…
The emotional aspect of driving combined with the extension of perceived personal space violations is a factor, obstacles hindering our progress is another.

Personally I’ve never been brake tested but that’s not to say I’ve never driven aggressively I just use an apologetic wave etc to diffuse a situation.

Leaving a good gap to traffic trying to drive around unnoticed and plenty of masterbation works for me.

It’s a war zone out there but we are all on the same bloody side.

Thanks for your opinion guys. Makes a change from the usual guff.

Snowman, you say brake checking is wrong and I totally agree but like most you fail to mention how dangerous tailgating is and I still say that causes drivers to brake.
Anyway difference of opinion.

DD you are a class act and as usual you come up with a good post.

Dr Damon:
I agree this sometimes does happen (but these vehicles are not brake checking you, are they?) but I think you know that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about blatant tailgaiting which I see far more of than the scenario you give. Trouble these days is very few will ease off or slow down. Just read the previous post.

It’s a sad reflection on today’s so called professional driver when you see the replies on here and it is no wonder we are more and more despised as the years roll by.
Anyone on here that posts something the average truck driver does not like and knows it’s wrong is called a troll. :unamused:

The reason lorry drivers are despised is because we’re big, slow and get in the way. Regardless of the road: city street, country road or motorway, we get in the way of car drivers.

I saw this earlier, and it typifies the attitude of many drivers.
hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hu … ot-1179676

Night after night I save people’s lives by anticipating the ridiculously dangerous things they are going to do, and make space for them. The sad thing is, most of them don’t actually realise what I’ve done. Had one last night, motorway coned down to one lane but traffic flowing at about 40mph. Because I was loaded I’d left a nice big gap to the car in front. Checks my mirror and some tool is tearing down my outside trying to beat the queue and get in front of me. If they had, they would need to slam the brakes on to avoid the car in front, meaning I would have to do the same, the car behind me etc. There was plenty of time for them to adjust their speed, so I moved over and straddled the white line, blocking their progress. At the end of the roadworks, they passed me and I got the expected abuse. Some might say I was being a self appointed traffic cop, I would say I was safeguarding other road users ( including racing car driver) and my load.

Now I’m not saying all lorry drivers are perfect drivers because I’ve saved plenty of them too, but for gods sake man, take off the blinkers. You cant lay all the problems on the roads at one set of road users.
