On many forums you get people asking if they have to give their name to a police officer.
Usually they don’t, But under the road traffic act you do.
I’ve been watching some daft youtube stuff with people making complete ■■■■ out of themselves (i know my rights), and that sort of rubbish.
But, It got me thinking.
Do you have to give your details to VOSA? They arn’t police officers.
and what about the bit on the front inside page of your passport?
in the name of Her Majesty the Queen, all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary.
Why not just flash the passport, and say “Not today Sir, I’m British don’t you know”?
Pretty sure Vosa can look at your license and digicard and dcpc card, so they don’t really have to ask for your name do they?
It used to say on bank notes " I promise to pay the bearer " etc. but you couldn’t get it’s face value in gold like you’re led to believe.

they can’t see your licence, digi card, and dcpc card if you’ve left them in your other jacket.

True they can’t. VOSA do have the power to stop a vehicle and check it. Ironically VOSA do not have the power to detain a driver, they usually get the Police to do this. My understanding is that you could take a vehicle into a check point as instructed and then walk away. Not sure what good it would do though !!
I like my life nice and simple so I give them my name - I’ve done nowt wrong and they’re going to get it anyway.
If you want to be a clever knob like these people on TV then that is just fine but when I’m driving down the road whilst you’re still there arguing the toss only delaying the inevitable then who is the bigger fool?
