Not really, take it as a bit tounge in cheek. I do think it’s funy that Haynes is doing these manuals, I’d seen them before and thought i was a micky take. But maybe if some of us spent as much time understanding our bodies as we do looking after our cars then we might be better for it.

I dont find it insulting personally, but I think its another good example of misguided stereotyping! :unamused:

A Haynes manual on Understanding Women, only needs one sentance.
When dealing with your woman, remember everything you say and do will be wrong, even when you are doing what has been asked.
It’s tin hat time.

Mine too, I mean their manuals are mainly aimed at car drivers so why does this one have to be aimed at HGV drivers?

I remember seeing somebody had the original version Haynes did, just called MAN, I thought it was just a manual for an MAN lorry at first.

I think in the ‘woman’ manual they use that imortal Haynes expression,
“this subject is beyond the sope of the DIY’er please refer to your dealer”

I got given the ‘man’ manual a few years ago as an xmas gift i think, it’s quite cleverly written i have to admit, quite informative really. It’s been sat on the bookshelf ever since though!

I think the reference to “HGV Man” refers to the Man himself, not the job he does, what doesn’t help, is the fact that they used a HGV driver in the newspaper to advertise it.
Having said that, there Are a lot of overweight HGV drivers around, I’m one, but not to the extent of the one in the paper.

We could raise this as a health and safety issue with RDC’s, all this sitting around is bad for my health and makes me overweight, what are you going to do about it?

Yeah, maybe they will provide a subsidised gym?

Your optimism is somewhat heartwarming but completely misguided

You can lose fifteen pounds overnight by buying that book. If you don’t, you’ll have enough cash to buy three big whoppers.

Being overweight has an advantage — woman don’t pester you, so you have a lot more time to do your own thing (though not necessarily “that” thing!)!!!

do they reasearch these books in a similiar way to the car manuals ie by taking the subjects to pieces and having a poke around?

Can’t say it bothers me one way or the other. I’m not overweight - despite my best efforts

The HGV bit? well they could hardly call it ‘The Fat Gits Book’, so I suppose it’s a polite way of saying the book is intended for the above

Photographic illustrations might not be best viewed while eating then…

When did Hayne’s manuals become jokes? I remember the manual I used to have for my 1966 VW was a good, thorough one, as was the one for my 1978 Volvo. I bought one for my 1996 Toyota Camry, but it’s nowhere near as good. Why are they wasting their time on junk like this? I mean, I understand this whole British ‘DIY thing’, but this is getting ridiculous!!
