Work have just put 1 of the lads through his Class 2, is he allowed to drive straight away or does he have to get his DCPC beforehand?
Yep!
Anyone whom passed their first C catogory i.e. C1 or C test after 10th September 2009 needs to pass mods 2 and 4 before they can drive vocationally. He could drive a class 2 wagon privatley like a wagon for his motor cross bikes or a hoss box but not for hire or reward.
If he had his C1 through passing his car test though he would not need too get mod 2 and 4 if he already had got coe 107 against C1 on his licence

Depends when he passed his car test, if he had cat C1 on his license when the DCPC started in 2009 he doesn’t need to do the initial CPC but other wise he can’t drive commercially until he’s done mods 2 and 4.

If he did not already have a LGV C1 on his licence, perhaps from passing car test before 1997, then to drive any LGV commercially he will need to pass both LGV initial dcpc modules 2 and 4

C1 before 1997 will not have code 107 but pre 97 C1+E will have
Code 107 just means 8250 kgs max
Are you thinking about code 101 which is next to pre 97 D1 and D1E which means not for hire or reward ?
Dont think he had the C1 as he only did van work and no 7.5t work, he’s down for 7.5t next week.

If the comppany paid for his C in order for him to drive C1 then he will need to pass LGV initial modules 2 and 4 before he can legally drive that C1 commercially
Don’t worry. Its a piece of ■■■■ to pass. I did the theory with a concussion and the practical after being awake for 27 hours. 100%ed both of em. The initial DCPC qualification is a joke, you would be better off telling new drivers to go and watch their local transport yard for five hours and get signatures. They would learn a hell of a lot more.

With an accompanying experienced driver at their shoulder to answer questions, you’re bang on! And they’d be able to pick up reversing tips which is very helpful…I learned more from an experienced driver, (ex shunter and euro man) in half an hour, than on the entire LGV training course about real work driving…
