Do i need to take the initial cpc qualification

as above really i passed my car test in november 1996 and have the c1 part on my licence

i passed my class 2 on 2nd october 2009

and more recently passed my class 1 on 22nd january 2010

now im still workin at my current employers where i been for 3 n half years as a 7 n half tonne multi drop driver
but now i got my class 1 they using me as a spare / relief class 1 driver to cover our class 1 drivers when they off sick
or on holiday as we dont have any spare so in the past they had to get agencies in

but since i passed my test they have been puttin me out with the experienced drivers n letting them supervise me n help me
along the way if need anythin and now have been let loose alone and im gettin lots of experience which will help me when do
find a permanent class 1 drivers job

but as aboe my question is do i need to take the initial cpc test or will i have the grandfather rights with already having c1 entitlement on my licence

any help or advice regarding this be much appreciated

thanks

I think…THINK…that you will already have grandfather rights as you already have the c1 prior to the cpc coming in. So you will be doing the periodic/ongoing cpc before 2014.

One of the guru’s im sure will be along, at a more humain hour to disagree (normal  ) or agree :grimacing:

I’m sure they will but in the mean time I’ll agree with you  Anyone who passed the car test prior to 1/1/97 will indeed have received the C1 automatically and have ‘grandfather rights’ until 2014 for the driver cpc.

thanks for your input so far

anyone else any idea ■■

you will definitely only need to do periodic ongoing cpc

NO.
Anyone with any LGV catagory (C1, C or CE) on their licence on 09 Sept 2009 has aquired (grandfather) rights.

You will need to do THE PERIODIC (ongoing) DRIVER CPC but you have until 09/09/2014 to get in the 35 hours for that.

Will your current employer be putting the drivers through the Periodic Dcpc or will the drivers have to pay for it themselves and do it in their own time

Does your current employer know that C1 drivers also need to do it if they are to drive commercially  - I ask this as many employers of C1 drivers do not realise this.

thanks for this info rog

yeah my current employers nightfreight have taken out a training set up with hargreaves training based in leeds and are paying for every driver to do the periodic training for all drivers, the first batch of 3 drivers are doing their first 7 hours in 2 weeks time

my question is how do they keep a record of how many hours each driver has completed etc

and also if i was to leave the company is there anyway i wud be able to take whatever periodic training with me or would i have to start all over again

GAZLEEDS:
my current employers …how do they keep a record of how many hours each driver has completed etc

That would be up to the company to keep their own records for each driver (probably on a computer

Always best to keep your own record as well :bulb:

Every time you complete 7 hours, that info is uploaded by the training provider to the DVLA data base so wherever you go that info will not change

The moment that the DVLA gets 35 hours uploaded for you then the DVLA will automatically issue you with a DQC (driver cpc card)

Whether you do all 35 hours next week or all 35 hours just before the cut off date of 09/09/2014 then the DQC for you will have an expiry date of 09/09/2019 on it

Each training session you complete MUST come with a certificate from the training company stating your details along with the course details completed- so by the end you will have 5 certs as well as your card when it arrives

Thanks John, I forgot that

If your company asks for those certificates then tell them that they may photocopy them but not have the originals - those certificates are in YOUR name and not the company

ok will bear that in mind, they are pretty good here so i dont see why they would try to keep them anyway

do you get the certificate at the end of the day once u have completed it then or are they sent out to you after

GAZLEEDS:

I don’t know the definitive answer that but I would guess that they either get sent if they are computer generated or if the trainer has blank copies and just needs to add the personal details (name) then they would be issued on the day

The certificate issued by the training company will confirm your attendance. Most training co’s will issue the certificate to the person who paid for the course, however it does ultimately belong to the Driver. Try and get the most out of any Driver CPC course you attend and good luck.
