I’ve been asked at work to bring up a horsebox up from down south, but I’m asking here (but expecting abuse), to whether I need my CPC to do it?
I would say yes. Simply because it’s not your horsebox, but you are moving it for reward. I stand to be corrected though.
Asked by my own boss as he doesn’t have his HGV2?
Sorry, forgot to mention…
I would say the official line would be yes as it’s a commercial job.
The unofficial line, if it’s a private horsebox, I’ll leave you to work that out.
Yes, it will be a private job…
Provided you are NOT earning or gaining reward for doing it you are good to go.
“It’s just a favour for a mate !” Honest.
But if it’s over 7.5t you will have to use a tachograph even if it’s private.
As others have said, no CPC needed for a private job, tacho is a must for over 7.5t, but if a tacho was fitted in 7.5t or under, I’d use it anway. Just to save any arguments if you were stopped.
After 10 years, never been stopped in my truck.

If using tacho in LGV C1 for private use then make sure you either select out of scope or write that on back of analogue card
Private LGV C means you are under full EU regs
Dcpc not needed for private LGV driving
Being paid to drive it means it will need dcpc
Not doing it now…
Been told Metcalf Farms is fetching it up.
