Do I need CPC done to take up Job as a Newbie?

Do I need CPC Done fully to take up job as a Newbie when I pass my Tests or Hiring company will pay for me so I do not have to pay for mine. At least that’s what I’ve been told by HGV Express representative.

I also do not want to waste my time finding out finally that I will have to pay for It and do not want to wait for Ages for CPC Theory and Test after I’m qualified with C entitlement

I take it this is a training company that wants to take your money so will tell you anything.
Have a look on here lots of posts about them I haven’t read any but should tell you if good or bad.
It depends on when you passed your car test if you need to do all cpc before you can drive a truck for a wage or have until September but either way cannot see any company wanting a driver with no cpc.
AND NO COMPANY WILL SIT YOU THROUGH 35 HOURS OF CPC ON PAY especially when they have a pick of drivers wanting jobs with cpc.
You need to look into this company before you part with any money and to more research.
Sorry if thus sounds harsh but you don’t need b s about this as I’m sure all you want is a licence and a job.

HGV express is a broker not a trainer - please tell us that you have not paid them anything?

Do not pay any money to anyone until you have met them face to face or have some rock solid recommendations

If you do not have dcpc acquired rights then you need to pass initial dcpc modules 2 then 4 to be able to drive commercially

From what you’ve said I assume you’re talking about the Initial Driver CPC, in which case you will need it before you get a job, no employer and certainly no agency will put you through the Initial Driver CPC at their expense after you’ve got your cat C licence.

If you was told that you would not need to pay for the Initial Driver CPC because a prospective employer would pay I’m afraid the broker was lying to you.

I’m afraid the OP has already signed up with HGV Express :frowning:

Clicky thing

Just goes to show what misinformation can be given out by brokers who know nothing about the laws of the industry

After pressing clicky thing all I can say is

What’s done is done - let’s now focus on trying to help the chap get through!

OP - how are you getting on, have you got provisional, theory and hazard perception chalked off yet mate?

If you need Initial CPC (you have newer car license after '97) you are lucky as it sure beats doing 35 hours of classroom.

I didn’t have to do Initial CPC, but I have been told that the case studies are pretty simple, and if you revised for the theory test properly that won’t be a problem, and is quite cheap to do, at same place you do theory test. The other module is usually a 1 day course, and I think I have it in head that it normally costs around £300, but someone will put me right.

Looks to me like the OP has potentially shot himself in the foot but doesn’t want to hear about it.

Best of luck with the training but there’s a reason brokers have bad reputations, I only hope for your sake you don’t find out why.

Got the Theory and Hazard Perception booked for May the 15th.

I’m pretty sure I’m gonna pass first time the theory bit as I’m Using Driving theory 4 all. Website to which i got Access for Free through HGV Express.

I also got all Database of Videos that will be on the test to Perfect Clicking moments on each Video to Score MAX score.

SO Not worried at all. Let’s just hope for the best.

About the Practical bit I think it’s a Course 2vs1 over the period of 4 days with the exam on the 4th Day. Thats where I’m a bit scared though it says i will get 20 hours to actually drive the truck.

Cool, best of luck. Tell us how it goes!

If test is towards end of 4th day that is pretty normal. I had similar and my test was first thing in morning on 5th day. If you get a good trainer and get comfortable with the vehicle fairly readily that is a perfectly achievable training duration. Let us know how you get on.
All the best. Tim

(Just so other newbies reading this know - that website normally costs £18 for 60 days access)

Am I reading this correctly, with a pre 97 car licence (I passed Dec 96) I don’t need initial cpc and can carry on with periodic? I have a thread further up the page explaining the issue, but that is the jist of it.

If you passed the car test in 1996 you should have cat C1 already on your licence, in which case you have acquired rights and don’t need to do the Initial DCPC.

Actually if you’ve got cat C1 on your licence I don’t think you could do the Initial DCPC even if you wanted to, I’m sure one of the trainers will correct me if that’s wrong

Having said that I am a bit confused because I thought you was already doing class 1 work

Edit: Ignore the last line I’ve just seen your other post

Yes, I am doing class 1 work already, all has been going very well then this cpc chap today was adamant he was right.

As ROG said in the other thread he was wrong.

He was probably just trying to uphold the reputation some DCPC trainers have for talking rubbish

He wasn’t really on the ball, proven when we managed to put the clock on the wall forward by an hour, he didn’t realise and he finished an hour early…
