Do Gooders sticking to the speed limits

Im sorry to all you professional,I do everything correctly, knights of the road do gooders on here but I really have to vent my irritation at the dicks who think its alright to pootle along at 40 for 20 odd miles and when it comes to a dual carriageway you then speed up to 56 so I cant get past.

If your gonna stick to 40 (most of you dont ),you go about 36mph thus irritating me even more) at least have the courtesy to stick to the 50 limit as well.

30 & 40 in villages residential areas outside schools etc I’ll stick to them, but having to follow some ■■■■ all the way from Newark to Leicester at 35mph is ■■■■■■■ ridiculous and I was 3rd behind the offending vehicle.I would’nt know how even more enraged i would have been if i had been 5 miles back.

The 40 mph limit on open single carriageways in my eyes is stupid,I still dont go over 50 on them and if the road is bad i drive slower according to the road and conditions.
This antiqated law is long outdated and im sure it causes more accidents than it prevents due to just sheer frustration.

Im paid hourly, but I like to be on the move and getting places on time, not stuck behind a stubborn do gooding ■■■■

I shall await a barrage of abuse from the liberal ,lefty ,health and safety, labour voters amongst you.calling me irresponsible :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Or from the guy who collected 6 points on his licence while thinking exactly like you and had the sense to realise no licence means no job= no income !!!

I agree on one point though, if your going to stick to the limits then when you hit a dual carriageway let those who dont care about getting points get passed

Liberal or labour? Make your mind up!

Liberal thinking /views  i.e THICK

But surely a “liberal thinker” would say that trucks should be driven without legal interference?

No a liberal thinker (ie these humans you get on the jeremy vine show)would BAN trucks altogether

Some drivers have no choice, but to drive at the correct speed limit or as has been posted they have to many points to risk getting caught, but true when they get to a dual carriageway they should continue to stick to the limit, knowing that many others will want to pass them.

I agree that the law is in need of review, but the best way of getting a review is for all HGV’s to stick to the speed limit and then let them sort out the chaos it causes to the car driving public.

2 years ago I started with 3 points I picked up in the car for leaving Birtley (Co / Durham) to join the A1 North, I was doing 30 mph and increased my speed to 36mph with only about 25 yards of the 30 speed limit remaining but hey ho, I was flashed by the unmarked camera van sitting right up against the hedge and accepted it was my fault.

Last June saw me pick 3 points up on the 13th June for doing 35 mph in a truck on a 30 limit, again that was my fault I accepted the points.

15th June saw me receive an NIP for travelling at 45mph on the A1 North at Cockburnspath in the Borders, then again on the 22nd June for 45 mph at East Reston in the Borders, again heading North. That was 9 points in 9days and all in a bloody truck

Both NIP’s were completed and returned by law but 3 weeks later I moved address and aint heard any more, although I suspect theres probably a warrant out for non appearance at court :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

The point is, It [zb’s] me off sticking to 40mph on the A1 of all roads due to the frustration it causes other motorists, but I decided to hell with it, Let some poor [zb] get killed and attend the inquest and explain WHY I was travelling at the outdated speed limit which resulted in the deceased party killing him / her self trying to get past.

One morning coming back from Spalding, just about 4 miles before the Dual Carriageway at Sleaford, it was dense fog, yet artics were flying past me flat out even though I was travelling at 40 mph and they couldnt see a hand in front let alone the corners.

By all means stick to limits but when you come to a dual carriageway stick to the limit on that as well, but until everyone sticks to the limits and causes bedlam, nothing will be done to update the outdated speed limits.

Sorry mate, but I think you’re wrong.

I stick to speed limits on whatever road I’m on when in the truck. I have to. My income could depend on it.

It isn’t me that decides the law. I’m certainly not going to put my licence at risk just to avoid upsetting all those who like to go tear-arsing about everywhere.

Yes I am paid by the hour. But I haven’t always been - and I stuck to the limits then as well. If you lose your licence due to getting enough points, and you are are paid by the hour. Well - it isn’t a very bright thng to do is it?

Driving at 40mph on single-carriageways is boring as hell, I agree. I also agree that the law is out of date, especially whan you consider the advances in the vehicles we drive. I have no time for those that stop other vehicles passing where possible.

But the law is the law. If you were in any other job, there would be rules you had to follow. I don’t see this as being any different.

We are paid to drive. Not to get worked up about getting to places on time. I like to be at places on time too, but I wouldn’t break the law to achieve it. If the running time allowed is insufficient, it isn’t my problem. I’ve never known anyone get the sack after being late for a delivery.

If you had an accident, and you were speeding when you had it, and somebody got killed. Say it was a kid on a bike, or something. Could you live with it? Don’t think I could.

And one other point. If I was seen speeding by a member of our management, or say my tacho proved I had been speeding, I would be up for disciplinary action and may get the sack (and yes, I have known this to happen). Might be worth bearing that in mind before having a go at anyone. :sunglasses:

I’m no angel in lots of ways  . I’m not perfect by any means and please don’t think I’m pretending to be. But this is one topic I feel quite strongly about.

i stick to all limits and sometimes will pull over briefly in laybys to let looooooong stream past… 40 = single 50= dual always and whatever the overhead gantrys say or roadworks say…dont like it…tough …get used to it or change career

Its my licence not yours …
you gonna pay my fine■■?
you gonna pay my insurance ■■?
i guess not …

Thats a fair point and you have written it in the right way and i agree with some of what you have to say :sunglasses:

I dont “tear arse around” and like I said in the main post residential, villages, outside schools anywhere there is a stated limit for ALL vehicles I stick to those limits,I have 2 kids myself and I live in a village, and I get fed up with people blatantly overspeeding through it ,but on the open road I will drive at 50 not 56 or 60 like the foreigners and like I said on windy narrow country roads if its wet, foggy, icy I will drive slower according to the road conditions.
My main point of this post was to say if your gonna drive at 35 on a single carriageway, stick to 45 on dual carriageways,so all the impatient enraged miserable people behind can get past you not then speed right up over the 50mph speed limit so no one can get past you and then slow back down again when it goes back to single carriageway.

I get people behind me getting frustrated at me doing 50 :unamused:

is there a YAWN smiley

they are mostly going that slow as they are talking on their mobiles …

Can I tell them how you got the other 3…? :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Totally understand why you would. That is what I meant when I said:

If you do stick to the limit - stick to it everywhere. To go like hell on a temporary bit of dual carriageway is daft. If it is only a mile or so, I tend to leave the cruise set at 40 in order to allow more traffic behind me to get past.

Can I tell them how you got the other 3…?

Is that a “yes” then? Because it didn’t look like a “no”… :stuck_out_tongue:

I know the van your on about Davey its always there most Saturdays, but surely it is illegal as the van is dark blue and he always tucks hiself under the trees.

This is about as selfish and single minded post as i ever could read. I was gonna say what about guys who are driving with 9 points on their licence who are scared to make a wrong move? What about some one whose boss checks his tachos? No, you didn’t consider that. You pal, can be as enraged as you like, you still aint going anywhere if you’re behind the likes of me. I actually can’t believe you posted this. Are you for real or are you drunk or stoned?
