Do ASDA use the curtains?

Hi all, I’ve done agency work for ASDA on chilled however I’ve not used curtains before and as its starting to get busy wondered if I could be sent out with a curtainsider.

I’ve not used a curtainsider before and wondered if I’d need to ask a driver for a demo or if they don’t use them at any of their stores and they just use the scissor lifts and loading bays.

Cheers.

Are you kidding

Everything goes in & out the back doors mate.

not strickly true. sometime you might get a back load from a supplier who load through the curtains. Unless Asda have changed policy in recent times!

Have a look at this:

I’m pretty sure the fork lift driver will help the guy out. I’m kicking myself now for not foreseeing an event that may never happen. How can I live this down? :unamused:

They were also handy when you had a few drops in the area and 1 had a queue of 3 trucks, so you nipped round to another, off through the curtains, back again.

I wasn’t on Asda, I was on Bunzl, but did lots of Asda’s and sometimes there was going to be an hour or more wait.

Help Me!

I have just watched a video where a bloke talks to a plastic bucket and himself and found it mildly amusing, and very educational. I have never seen an automatic curtain tensioner in the flesh so to speak.

Obviously Virginia look after their tackle, it is not always like that with every trailer. so remember, defect defect defect!

If you damage it, report it!

I used the curtain fairly often but eventually refused ambient shifts as much as possible.

Most Grangemouth guys will be familiar with the red staircase…

But I used it at a lot of stores such as Bishopbriggs as they have a marquee over christmas and it blocks the bay door.

Also sometimes go over to the rail head and they have stuff on pallets there that go in the side.

If your trunking for 'em you might get a dd and it could be either box or curtains…don’t queue - if it’s for Asda use the Asda vehicle lane at RDC’s.

Was tipping at an Asda recently and they definitely used the curtains.

Thanks for the replies and the link to Luke’s video, good video and helps a new driver out a bit.

If/when I get one at least I can have a look at it and see if I can work it out, if not I’ll ask another driver.

The times that I didn’t manage to dodge ambient work at grangemouth, I never used the curtains - it was through the doors.

I miss driving for asda ,but not that much…

When I worked at sainsbury’s hams hall we had some curtainsiders for back hauls, we all got 3 hours training on how to use the curtains and straps inside.
