Oops ! What have I done ? How can it be corrected ?

Not sure what you did with the picture but, till someone comes along with the
good oil edit the text by hitting ‘return’ at the end of each line in the reply box.
Then it will look like this and at least I can read what looks like an interesting
post.

Hello well this thread certainly brung the memories back I was on for McMurdo
of Sanquhar and the Bell Bar was a regular stop, one night one of Smith’s older drivers was haveing a meal and a lad from up north was quite interested
in the fact he had an old ERF and asked if seeing it was a fair age did it give
much bother back came the reply NO SON IT DISNEY GO HARD ENOUGH TO
GIE ONY BOTHER.and as I was on the same model o ERF I new what he meant. But as STRAVAIGER says it was better times then we had a lot more
freedom and there was more trust then we hunted all our own load’s back up
the road and as long as you did your job they left you to get on wi it.
Eddie.

The big difference between the two firms,
apart from the obvious one of address
was that Wishaw had (Transport) Ltd
and Strathaven had the creamy/yellow
line painted below the door windows.

Like this…

Jimmy you cracked it, and thanks for that. I thoroughly enjoyed the text and the
photos too. Although I never worked for Smith’s I was around in those models on general haulage at the time and often at Stainmore, the ‘must’ stopover
place for all those on ‘Scotch’.

Thanks for the memories.

Back in the days before sleeper cabs it was not uncommon for Drivers coming from the same area to end up in the same digs.
I worked for Strathclyde Transport out of Frood St.Motherwell for four years.

Those were the days, abandon wagon go to digs fed watered & out on the town, A drivers social life was a lot more lively in those days.

On an earlier post Alex Canning was mentioned, their was a ■■■■ Canning at Strathclyde, would that be his brother?.

My father worked for Smith out of Wishaw for a while before they closed down.

Jackson was some character, last time I did see him, we had a drink in the Clydesdale in Bigger. that was a few years back, is he still around?.
