On agency for the ‘brown coloured haulier’ doing chocolate products, Sheffield to ‘DLH’ depot MK yesterday.
Arrived MK at 17:26. Gates shut. Two wagons inside waiting to get out. You have to push intercom and quote the password (yesterday it was ‘case’)
The driver inside had been waiting 10 minutes.
I pushed and waited a moment or two and quoted said password, and gates opened.
Two waiting to get out were also eventually successful. I proceeded to ‘drop trailer anywhere I liked’, and looked for any empty.
I was the only living person in the place. All locked up. It was liberating, toddling around there with no hi viz on. At one point I nearly took off my safety boots. I drove around above the speed limit, sometimes going the wrong way!
Tried the office door, locked. Needed a ‘comfort brake’, also locked!
Story goes they close and shut up leaving driver cars locked inside. drivers had to take unit home!
So what about health and safety? No facilities, no one to book in and out, what if there is an accident or you are taken ill?
It’s all fudge!
