Diversion symbols

hi which symbol would you take off a motorway if you were instructed by authority after an accident, during the day and if you were in a high sider 16ft. And why are there 4 or five symbols at an exit off a motorway what do they mean?

When they set up the diversion there will be a sign saying for x follow triangle,For X1 follow square, for X2 follow circle and so on.
You’ll also find it’s very rare for them to set up a diversion route for high sided vehicles they just leave you to it

Different symbols for different diversion routes.
I THINK (and I may be wrong as ive been wrong once before) but for example the circle is if you want road X but the oval is for if you want to get to road A. The idea is you follow the symbol to get to the road you want. I think it also covers things like “HGVS follow O” and “high sided vehicles follow X”.
Thats my understanding of it anyway but my highway code knowledge isnt exactly my chosen mastermind subject!

So I’ve just come off the m5 here as it’s shut, or I’ve heard of severe delays so chance a diversion. Go up to the roundabout and see this…

Which symbol am I to follow and where’s it going to take me?

Like a bloody PlayStation controller some of these signs, worst is when I don’t read the diversion sign quick enough and don’t have a scooby which symbol to follow. If in doubt I usually aim for the dark circle, story of my life.
