I read a report a few weeks ago which stated that the chairman of royal Mail was awarded a bonus of £142,000.Is that true ? Outrageous if it is.
Yes it was on the news, it brought his wages up to £750,000 this year. Not too bad is it.

Well royal mail are not exactly great.
Royal mail workers get paid significantly more than Amazon workers and provide a much worse service.
Whenever I order from Amazon I get next day delivery heck sometimes same day with tracking.
With royal mail you just never know.

What goes around comes around eh?.You speak as though the Unions are now dead in the water. They are still strong in other areas of work, not in haulage so much because unless the majority of the workforce is unionist then it doesnt work. The union is only as strong as its members. Why do you think half of the country is on strike at the moment. Lorry Drivers are weak and conditioned to be shafted whereas other areas of industry are not so stupid. Now may not be the time for strikes as Juddian quoted, however we are about to enter a decade at the very least of recession. So when do they wait to strike? Another 10 years until the economy grows from those who continue to work crazy shifts in order to keep their jobs. The haulage companys either put up their rates to compensate for the additional wage bill and take a reduced profit margin or keep as they are, working on a shoe string and hope enough drivers accept their T&Cs and just get on with it. Either way the chances of a lot of these haulliers will not be able to ride out a 10 year recession regardless. So they put up their rates but save money by not increasing their wage bill, putting their problems onto the drivers is not the answer. Although I bet there will be plenty of willing lambs for them to sacrifice.

I.was talking to one Amazon lad, I opened the door to him just as he was walking out of the gate.
He had left ipackage in my shed, and after apologising,.I told him I heard him knock,.and was on the way to answer the door anyway.
He told me the guidelines (official or unofficial) are if there is no answer count to 10,.and leave parcel in shed,.get to hell out asap.
After him saying ‘‘Cheers can’t hang about.’’ ,.he RAN back to van and sped off to next job.

Compared to the Royal Mail lot who I often see just chatting in their van. The average age seems to be a lot higher for the average RM worker as well. They do not exactly rush.
It’s a capitalist system. Consumers want fast efficient deliveries. Royal Mail can strike all they want but they must surely know they need a radical reorganization if they want to stay competitive. If they want more pay they are gonna have to work just as hard as what is typical in the industries these days. They can not have the same work ethnic as of the 80s anymore lol.
I haven’t done mail delivery for the Royal Mail in a while but I remember it being inefficient as hell.
They already have above industry standard pay to be honest lol and they rejected a 9% pay rise? lmao.
I can see Royal Mail going the way of the Dodo.

Ho ho ho Santa is still with us and very much real. Sorry the way this sounded to you mate. your probably one of the least drivers that would accept the bs that a lot of the drivers will. Personally for me, like lots of others I just got out of it and have walked away. Cannot be bothered to take anymore of it as nothing is getting any better. This isn’t the job I signed up for in the beginning and the drivers have definately changed over the years. Frustrated and disillusioned are a couple of my feelings.

Phew, pleased about that,.I’ve sent him my list, been a good boy all year (most of the time anyway ) and everything.
Way things are now mate,.as I have said many times on here. if working for a non Union firm, and if you get no backing from other drivers, the best way to deal with it is to just field all the b/s and look after number one by making the best of things for YOU.
I ain’t any different nor any better than anybody else, you would be amazed at how much,.and what types of crap I have bent over for, and took in order to keep a job that I like, so I give it a 100 % to keep it, (but at the same time not being the biggest fan of the firm I work for.)
However how I deal with it is, just try and ‘win’ in my own way, and on the whole most of the time I have managed that, and if they think they have won everybody is happy .
Winning by appearing to lose’’ as my wise old Granda used to instil into me, and ‘Beating them with their own stick’ as a mate of mine puts it.
You are deadly accurate at how drivers have changed, the older guys that I used to look up to when I was a newbie, were a different breed.
I still see some of the older long retired guys,.always buy them a pint in the pub, fir helping me in those days,.and when I tell them some if the absolute ■■■■ takes we have to out up with these days, they can not believe it.
Anyhow need to get off this ■■■■ phone …I’m,.waiting for 2 daughters picking me up to go on shopping trip and lunch out…so off to find my wallet and cards.

Honestly, I would never join a Union.Because if I spent my entire career working as a HGV driver I would of considered it a failure on my part.
So, I see HGV driving as more of a job of necessity. I do driving to pay the bills and to work towards my goals. When I do not like a job I find another one. I do not ■■■■ about with Unions. I am sure they have their uses for the lifers though.Longest I have ever worked at a place was prob 3-5 years and that was far too long. Got stuck in a rut.
This is very much my attitude to working as a lorry driver. It’s a job, something changes and it doesn’t suit you anymore, leave, find another one.
None of them are worth fighting for, after all, once they’re done with you, your out regardless.
I have been in unions and apart from one job who’s shop steward was totally focused on onsite matters only, the rest have been a complete waste of time and my money. The few times when I and indeed, my wife needed them, they completely let us down.
Might just be a coincidence but four jobs I had with strong unions, all got sold on.
I think if there was a union …I do not mean like the TGWU and it was solid then we could wave goodby to 15 hour spread and the nights out on industrial estates ,we could also demand more money for all the spy stuff…and paying for damage ect…Talk and play ball or we stop …it would only take 48 hours at most ,make the train drivers strike look like a joke.I know it will never happen we are all take
If you work for a big outfit the union will be interested in helping you. A lot of us work as part of a small work force so we are quite fragmented. The union wont break sweat for just a few drivers.

I can see why you don’t join a Union as you change jobs every few years. This is the new norm and the reason why a lot of people have poor pay and t and c’s as when conflict arrives you move on.
With Royal Mail, people stay. I have over 30 year’s and there are still a lot more senior than me within my office.
We have constantly changed our working practices over the years, but we will not be dragged down to the gig economy.
Every worker needs to wake up and realise what is happening. We have to protect the young workers, get them involved and educate them. If we don’t, I hate to think what will happen when my generation (50’s) have retired.
I see you mentioned the 9% pay rise that the media keep on about. I can tell you as a Royal Mail employee that is not true. Did you know last year Lorry drivers earned more than Solicitors and Doctors . I also believe according to the media, so it must be true, that Delivery Postmen earn over £48,000 a year.
You also mentioned about Amazon and the like are so much better than Royal Mail. Have you ever stopped to speak to the driver about how they get treated, how much they earn and do they have ANY proper t and c’s?

Apathy, and serial conformity seems to be the order of the day with too many.
As for the young workers, …they too will be influenced by these sorry arsed ■■■■ s, so I don’t bear much hope.
Unlike guys our age range, who remember when things were different, the young lads starting out know nothing else, it is normal for them to be micro managed, dished out with unfairness and injustices, and to just accept them.
So unless down the line history repeats it’s self.and groups emerge and speak out saying enough is enough,.the race to the bottom will be won even sooner I reckon…

Yodel, but for a subby, Jans Haulage in Aberystwyth which I walked out on on Sunday when the boss proceeded to give me a dressing down in an office full of people because I didn’t do enough drops on Saturday. I spent the day sliding around on ice that’s why. Did laugh tho as as I was walking out the door he said ‘if you go home now don’t come back’ to which I replied that’s sort of the point Never walked out on a job before but never worked for anyone that bad either, shockingly awful employer! Laziest muppet I’ve ever worked for too.
Anyway early on on parcels you either learn that you can’t wait for people to answer the door or you take much much longer. Even someone taking an extra 30 seconds to answer door x100 adds almost an hour to the day.

Eh? You pay royal mail for next day delivery it gets there. Ive been using them 20 years, used it a thousand times and theyve never missed once. Are you just saying that because you 're tory?
The royal mail want it changed to gig economy work like amazon do - just employ anyone with a van on 40 pence a drop - less than minimum wage - if that happens lots of parcels will “go missing” just from people trying to make the job pay.

I think now is the wrong time for strikes, our country is suffering the results of 3 decades of ■■■■ poor government and we’re heading rapidly round the U bend, there’s going to be high numbers of redundancies anyway and striking may well have not the desired result, when the signing of new worse than before contracts may be the only way to restart after the strike is over.
We’re in unchartered territory now.Whilst i’m a big supporter of unions who on the whole have been good for ts.
