Discrimination

… i didnt recon on a simple post getting such reactions it was never ment to stir things up just to raise the issue

Hi bjd,

I’m not sure what you mean by “such reactions” and “stirring things up” cos I’ve read all posts in your topic and IMHO nothing has been stirred. Trust me mate, this is refreshingly civilised.

IMHO, what you’ve had is an open and frank discussion in which several members have pointed out something that you might not have fully understood at first. You’re not the first poster to have asked that perfectly good question, and I doubt that you’ll be the last.

From my reading of your topic, you seem to have benefited by having taken the comments on board in the way they were meant, so I think that says something good about you too.

well itry to learn something new every day that way its not been a waist of a day and i certanly wouldent claim to no every thing, so theres still loads of learning to be done and i do think good quality training is the key in this industry

Forget discrimination, most drivers of a certain age started off with a firm with a few old lorries doing lots of allsorts, that is how these firms grew, they had a couple of flats, a tipper for the grain and beet season, maybe a fridge and a couple of rigids. We grew up with haulage or had part of the family who did.
What I am trying to say, we all started at the beginning, some got lucky breaks, some didn’t.

Very few of us managed to get a new Leyland Marathon with a new Boden trailer on supermarket deliveries

Yeh i agree there wheelnut but unfortunatly that dosent really happen any more so when someone funds there own licence be it class 1 or 2 then they cant get involved in the job for 2 years then every thing they paid to learn can get a little rusty then after 2 years you end up back where you started luckely i am driving class 1 even it is only holiday cover but at least imm building up experience for a later time the discrimation thing was no more than a train of thought maybe i should have explained that better in the origional post but come on the transport industry is very short sighted when it comes to training, training is an investment in the future for both employer and there work force even in a resession as a previouse poster pointed out can you afford not to train people well ?

At least you could crash out across the seats in a D series DD, try doing that in a Marathon
