DISC Test

Looks like I may be off to Viking land again having possibly talked myself into a good job with the Danes.

God alone knows how but I impressed them at the interview and was waiting for a written job offer or contract but have been told I’ve got to do a DISC test and wait for the results and official feedback before things go any further.

It’s some kind of personality test where they ask you random questions like: “Do you become impatient with incompetent people in the workplace?” or “Do you go out of your way to avoid direct confrontation in situations that may become heated?”

This could be the part where I get rumbled as being a psychopath and the job offer withdrawn!!

For example, “I’m very cool headed in such situations, it’s merely my fists that have a natural inclination to portray aggressive tendencies when the social environment is positively inducive to such actions whilst the rest of my body and internal organs are likely to remain at ambient room temperature”.

Ok, so I didn’t actually answer like that but if you’re gonna ask silly questions expect silly answers.

I completed it yesterday and need to wait until Thursday before I know how it went.

Has anybody else done one of these before?
It seems a bit OTT to me but maybe I’ve become too accustomed to working for cowboys and small firms that throw you a set of keys and say see you back at the yard on Friday.

Is this something special to the Danes or have you heard about it anywhere else in Scandinavia.
Last week i done the last parts of the dcpc here in Sweden. In cat 5 it seems there was a lot about this sort of thing,i don’t know if they are the same all over or whether certain countries emphasise different aspects of the dcpc, maybe relating more to their own country. What is it in Dansk.

You shouldn’t need to ask-think IKEA!

Ikea is Swedish not Danish and my question to Duck was asking if this ‘‘personality’’ test was peculiar to DK as he has [like me]worked in diverse countries.

In answer to your question I think it is more of a “corporate” thing as opposed to being a specific Danish trait. I have got to do a Skype interview tomorrow with an independent “corporate team building” company to discuss the results of my test. I foresee disaster on the horizon.

At the actual job interview I got a real grilling in a boardroom in front of 3 suits and they asked me what my goals were and I thought, “oh ■■■■ this, I’ve had enough!”

Basically told them that I think driving a truck or mobile crane isn’t really for me anymore, I wanna get somewhere in life, I’m sick of wasting my time and you should go and recruit a few V8 Scania fans or truck nerds for your heavy haulage division, I’m probably not what you’re looking for TBH.

After a cup of tea and a chat about Jante’s Law, Brexit and UK transport regs. I was shown the door and told to expect some feedback in due course.

Whilst chomping on a Chicken Royale on the motorway services the next day I got a call from their operations manager and expected the worst.

Turns out they want me to start off as a driver and then become a site manager on windfarm projects… Was looking good until this mental/personality assessment thing.

Hopefully it’s just a box ticking exercise, if not, I’m in trouble! :open_mouth:

Let us know what the result is,i’m curious about this disc thingy.Sounds very bureaucratic for a trucker, even if it leads to better things.I wonder if it’s Torben Rafn in Sommersted.[don’t expect you to say on open forum].Good luck anyway.

Here’s a link to info on the DiSC test, there’s lots of info to be had here…

Cheers Dave.

I have done a similar test many years ago when I applied for a job with an IT company, although the job was UK based the company was American.

I didn’t get the job, :frowning: apparently the test showed I had conflict resolution problems. :open_mouth:
How they worked that out from the answers I gave I’ll never know.

(However due to the results of the test, I was recruited by Tony Blair to help him as Middle East peace envoy. That went well  )

P.S. I’ll let you decide which bits of this post are fact or fiction.

Funny,on the link it says that ‘disc’ is a '‘non judgemental’'test but it can be used to decide if you are suitable or not.So in essence it IS used to judge you.

Having looked at the link I think they have spelt it wrong, it should be DICS. Ok for management/office staff but don’t really see the connection for drivers. Team players, conflict resolution, problem solvers, 90% of us don’t even get listened to, we are just the last link in the chain.
And before anyone says it yes after 44 years I am a defeatist.

Yes I did one for the DWP for a job in a dole office when I had to pack in driving and was looking at alternatives. Many public sector positions do this kind of test.

I basically looked at the question and put down what I thought the politically correct moron brigade would like to hear. Made it to interview and got a job offer so I guess it was the way to go.
