Dirty lorries

Am picking up a lorry tomorrow in Portsmouth to take to another depot, am dreading what states it going to be in, if it’s not crisp and chocolate wrappers stuffed in every ■■■■ and crannie it’s a defect list as long as my arm

I have to live in my truck for the duration of a tour, this one being 4 months.

Bagging any rubbish every day and using a few scented dashboard wipes does the world of good. If it’s not raining I keep the roof hatch open to air the cab out as much as possible.

4 months in a filthy truck would be horrible.

A tidy truck is a happy truck!

I remember an incident many years ago, had to swap trucks while other driver had day off. Got in early next morning, climbed in and couldn’t believe the state of cab, ■■■ ends all over floor, old newspapers everywhere and everything generally dirty.
Got back at end of day and had a moan to TM, he had a look and agreed with me. He points to a couple of dustbins and says empty those in his cab and leave it.
That driver had the cleanest truck in the fleet after that day.

Our grab wagon. Some would say minging.

Crane-boy:
What is it with lorries being kept in a rank state inside?
Every lorry I’ve driven that hasn’t been my fulltime vehicle is putrid, dead flies on the centre console and Wing mirrors so dirty I thought I had cataracts

Dirty or clean?

It doesn’t matter it says DAF on the steering wheel so it doesn’t count.

Fact is a lot of drivers are dirty minging ■■■■, and enjoy living among their own ■■■■.
Imo they give us all a bad name, as they are noticed more as they stand out more, I tend to treat them with the contempt that they bring about themselves. I’m not saying they should walk around like fashion models but there is no excuse for ■■■■ poor personal hygiene.
I use the same motor all the time, but in the past have refused to drive some spare motors as I refuse to be subjected to some dirty ■■■■■’s ■■■■ hole.

but some like their lorries like their women :grimacing:

What ?, Good at staying clean , doing sod all at weekends and costing me money ?

Dust, I’m constantly battling dust. Oh and crumbs.

When I had my own truck I used to keep the cab as clean as I could I was in it for up to 5 nights not over the top but clean. Now I drive for a bloke own account who thinks his are the best --------------- the trucks never ever see water only washed when it rains has a steam cleaner cost to much to use , water rates . The interior of the cabs have green mould on the dash all tools thrown in cab passenger footwell and seat extra storage on the bunk complain and get told its only a site wagon .Trouble is this site wagon expected to do both local and distance.

Dirty or clean?

clean apart from the crab trying to escape from the bunk :open_mouth:

When I first saw it I thought it was one of those ready cooked chickens you get from asda!

I lost mine last week , finally got it back today , it’s has fitters in it and agency and I can’t believe they’ve turned it from a nice clean interior too a tip in 4/5 days or whatever it is
N.b is it possible too bring my 3 pack of John west tuna back as I’ve nothing too put in my thins , hope you enjoyed 2 of my Bramley Apple and black currant pies as well :unamused:

No probs doze, park it up in view of your planners, tell them you will set off in 2 hours after you have valeted it back to the standard that you last left it, as you refuse to live in a ■■■■ hole.

Result nice clean cab for 2 hours pay, at the same time your planner will know next time not to take the ■■■■.

It worked for me a couple of years ago, I just refused to take it out of the yard, got a few humms and arrrs, but boss saw I was severely ■■■■■■ off, and I just carried on,… nothing more said.
What did you do doze, please tell me that you didn’t just say nowt and drive. if you did nothing will ever change for you. :bulb:

Dozy leave some sweets next time, preferably suger coated ones. Then sprinkle some laxative powder over them and leave for the agency drivers’ enjoyment.

It actually took 3 hrs too leave the yard as all my kit , chains , rachets etc were taken out of the truck last week and they said they’d get it all put back as it was as they took it all out ( but apparently they had no time too do it , )so what with cleaning inside of truck , finding what I could of gear and strapping up load it took nigh on 3 hrs ( meant too see boss but I guess he knew I wasn’t in best mood so cancelled)
As for cleaning it just defeats me most of the time ( odd decent driver though ) , you leave it spotless with the cleaning kit too give it a wipe over and they don’t bother but still pinch cleaning products ( are they that hard up ) ,
You ask who had the truck but they won’t tell you , I’ve just left it , but I can’t live in a ■■■■■■■■ , they know that so arnt bothered , we know he’ll clean it up .
When the trucks came in we were told trampers only , then if desperate company drivers , now any one who’s got a lisense , they couldn’t give a ■■■■ and neither can the drivers by the look of it , pigs

I drive with my gloves on.All the time now. Used to clean the steering wheel, and all of the instuments, but gave it up. 3 years old trucks, lots of cr4p on the inside door handle, and on the steering wheel too.Every day a different truck.I won’t clean the whole fleet.

I’m dayshift and returned to my usual truck today (drive it probably 95% of the time anyway) after a couple of weeks off and nice to see it was left pretty clean! Common decency surely is the way I see it, clear up after yourself and always leave it to the standard you find it. Although there was probably only two different drivers on it while I was away.

Obviously if its a dump then that’s up to that individual driver. Luckily ours are mostly the same driver in the same vehicle everyday so are kept nice and clean if you ever do get a different truck when covering holidays/trucks away for checks etc.

Its half the battle if the company can pair a truck to one or two drivers for distribution work.

As has been said when the vehicles are put with a different driver everyday the fleet soon deteriorates quickly you see it everywhere nowadays. Common sense really but a lot of companies don’t think that way which is pretty surprising as they must get stung on the vehicles return for general condition and damage if leased of course.

I’ve been out of my designated truck for a week due to shunting duties. Before I vacated it I specifically asked for a particular driver to have it as he tramps all week and is absolutely immaculate and has had it before and kept it gleaming. I think the ■■■■■■■ in our traffic office think it is some kind of game to give it to as many different drivers as they possibly can. I’d have stood more chance of that particular driver having it if I’d have said “don’t under any circumstances let Mariusz drive my truck”. Inverse logic seems to work with them children.

As Robroy earlier suggested I spent two hours in front of the TO window cleaning it before even considering putting my bedding and stuff in. It probably will not make a difference to their attitude, but if enough of us did the same then something may just change.
