Direct LGV stops trading

Taken from hgvlgvtraining.co.uk/

It would appear that HGV training brokers, Direct LGV are no longer trading. For the past 2 weeks customers who call their telephone number (advertised on their website) are given the following message “The number you have dialled in not currently in service”

Their website is still active yet gives no indication as to why they cannot be contacted. Visitors to the website however can still complete a “contact us” form. Via their website Direct LGV claims to have over 80 training locations all over the UK. They also claim to supply LGV jobs in association with Blue Arrow.

The reality is they were a hybrid broker. They had 1 or 2 training vehicles and tested out of Enfield, North London. All other HGV driver training was farmed out to 3rd parties. As a result students didn’t have a choice as to where they ended up.

That is if they ever got the training they paid for in the first place. Blue Arrow has also denied having any recruitment agreement with Direct LGV. Direct LGV had an abysmal record for customer service, training delivery and paying their bills.

Just Google “LGV Direct reviews” and see how many people have complained about this company.

In fact Direct LGV was mentioned in a recent Daily Mirror articled called ”Road to Ruin”.

In it they were exposed as a dodgy HGV training broker who had 20 County Court Judgements (CCJ’s) against them totalling 33,000 pounds. Interestingly Direct LGV has a sister company called KHMO which has 9 CCJ’s against it totalling nearly 18,000 pounds.

Direct LGV’s credit score also speaks volumes about how this company operated. A credit score of 2 is deemed very high risk.

By the looks of things Direct LGV has joined a long list of HGV training brokers who have ceased trading. In recent times we have seen the collapse of Advantage Training Services, Fast Track HGV, Network HGV, 1st Class Trucking, Blackwater HGV, to name but a few.

HGV training brokers will lead potential customers into thinking they are a national training company who will find them work after passing their driving test. Claims of earning 30,000 pounds a year is not uncommon. What’s promised initially is seldom delivered in reality.

If you’re serious about getting you’re HGV driving licence then we recommend you go direct to a local, established training providers in your area.

…a credit score of 2… Is that the 2/1000 by any chance?

People who robbed the bank at gunpoint don’t usually get to score THAT low so that’s saying something in itself!

I wouldn’t trust any deals and claims by by these firms unless the MD personally puts a lien on his house in my hands - and even then I’d check with the land registry office to make sure it’s his property to hock! :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Treat getting a LGV licence like “block release” for going to college. It has no value whatsoever unless your EMPLOYER is sending you there - ie you already have the job very much lined up, because you’re already working at the same firm in a non-LGV capacity.

Paying for your own licence only to be told “No agency work for you - no experience Sorry bud” or “No full time work for you - because no one has GOT any” isn’t going to encourage people to fork out four figures for the trouble of getting the licence. In a decade or so, they’ll be a real shortage as more 50+ drivers hang up their keys. That time isn’t yet alas. :frowning:

Don’t worry, I’m sure they will be back under a new name very shortly, all ready to rip off more stupid people who can’t be bothered to find a proper driving school themselves :unamused:

Well, I agree with the first part but I wouldn’t say people were stupid for being duped, these brokers target people who specifically don’t have knowledge of the transport industry. They often run advertising campaigns in tabloid newspapers in conjunction with pretend news items on an adjacent page of the same newspaper flagging up the “driver shortage”.

I dont think that DirectLGV going down is a surprise- or a loss given the past track record of its owners, However can I ask that any speculation about new websites and who may be behind them is not publicaly published unless proof can be provided.

Many of these people are very lawyer happy and are not stupid and stay just the right side of the law- by making any unproven allegations all we are doing is giving them the potential of making even more money by litigation.

As requested, no names, although it does seem an enormous coincidence that all of a sudden there is a “new kid on the block”.

I am sure it is coincidence  as well as the rhetoric is very similar to some other websites that are now defunct. However UcanLGV at this time have not appeared to have done anything similar to those discredited websites apart from making similar website claims.

I have had an interesting conversation with a journalist from a national newspaper this afternoon ( the same one I talked to on a number of other occassions regarding various brokers) who has an interest in a new company- be interesting to see what he finds out with far greater resources than us

I have requested that this new website let us know who the owners are ( as it is not possible to find that information from their website) and let us all know why we should view them differently from other websites making similar claims that have been discredited- I await their response and will post here when it is recieved

I have offered them free reign if they register here to put their point of view or I can post on their behalf

Good riddance they should all be made illegal!!!

This is the website today…

Due to difficult trading conditions KHMO Ltd trading as Direct LGV has ceased to trade.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We will provide further information in due course.

Ain’t that a fact,

It can’t be that hard to pick up the phone and ring round a few local companies to get some info and prices. :unamused:

You know that and I know that but anyone unconnected with the transport industry who sees one of these adverts in a national newspaper could be forgiven that that is the way in which you become a truck driver.

Spot on Harry.

Do you think so

You see if I want something I research it on the Internet and shop about :bulb:

Rightly or wrongly, if people see an advertisement in the UK’s most popular newspaper for a training company, just one page after a news story about the “driver shortage” featuring case studies in which that company is actually mentioned by name by a cheery newly-qualified driver, then they tend to think that company must be trustworthy.

jessicas dad:
You see if I want something I research it on the Internet and shop about…

Exactly, especially if it’s something that costs thousands of pounds.

Anybody who believes that everything/anything in a newspaper must be true is probably too daft and irresponsible to be driving a truck anyway.

+1.
I have never bought newspapers, even any element of truth is normally bent to make the story sensational but going by the number of copies sold there must be thousands out there that are gullible and any ad. in there is from a company with good standing.
Fool and his money ?

I’ve not seen these training adverts but I’ve seen similar full page spreads, don’t they have a header with the word “advertisement” implying that whatever is below is not written by the newspaper and is an advertisement?
