Some time in the 1960s there was a serious fire in a drivers’ digs, in I think Silvertown, resulting in some deaths. Does anyone know any more details?

There was a bad fire at Brays in Islington IIRC but I think it was in the early 70’s but I could be wrong, but it definitely was Brays, which was a poxy hole by all accounts! Cheers Bewick.
Think your right with that Berwick , it was Brays but i think it was algate , did stay there on a couple of occasions in the 60,s when i was second mate , your right it was a doss hole , nearbye if Brays was full was a place called the Blue Peacock were they sent you if they had no room (seem to think same owners ) Remember the fire think it was late 60,s dont think it reopened after.
Brays had two Digs in London, Gardner’s Corner & Liverpool Road, Liverpool Road was the one that burned down, I think early seventies?.
It never reopened, & if memory is correct Gardner’s Corner was shut down as well.
Both were total dosshouses & should have been condemed long before the fire.
Dave.
Georgie Brays, Liverpool Rd. Islington.
A poxy hole indeed ,stayed once, never again.
Think of a dump, double it, and you’ll be getting close.
