Digicards

Looking for some advice.

Just changed my licence to a Dutch one, is my UK digicard still valid?

I’m loathed to have to pay the €86 the Dutch highwaymen want and my UK one still has quite a while left on it.

And before someone says it I’m not going to get a dutch one so I can have two to run bent.

Thanks in advance

Yep, your UK digicard is valid throughout the EU.
I’ve been back in Germany for about 2 years and I’m still running with my UK licence and digicard.

i don’t think it is mate on you new licence you have driver licence number and this is also on your digital tachograph card as you licence number on your driver card is the English one it will not telly i would as the Dutch licensing to send you a new one

Your digital card is linked to your UK driving licence which you have relinquished. It will have the same driver number on it. Why did you exchange your licence for a Dutch one, you could have driven on a UK licence in the EU

I reckon you will be in the doo doo in a control, especially in Belgium

Bugger. Didn’t know that.
Looks as though I’m in for a big bill when my next medical is due then :imp:

Needed a medical and was easier to get it sorted here rather than fly back to blighty just to get a medical, i needed a photo change too as it was near the 10 years, and DVLA would only send it to the embassy here, so thats another 3 hr round trip to pick it up.

Thats just the thing my DVLA driver number IS on my new dutch licence, so it can be linked to my driver card. This is why I asked the question in the first place.

Any ideas?

I’m no expert on this but my guess would be that as the two are linked then it makes logical sense that the digicard is still valid.

Bigsib, your UK driver card is valid until the expiry date shown as item 4b on its’ front. The relevant legislation requires ALL Member States to recognise cards issued by another Member State. The licence details contained at 5b is the driver licence number valid at the time the driver card was issued, the fact that the licence number may change during the validity of the driver card is immaterial.

Should your card become defective, lost or stolen then you will need to report the fact to DVLA. At that point you could ask the Dutch authorities to issue you a new card. Alternatively, you could ask DVLA to replace the card, but that could be problematic in that they will only send the card to a UK address (VOSA Test Station or DVLA office in the case of loss / theft).

Before you card expires you’ll have to decide which issuing authority you want to apply to so that they can get your card renewed. You need to fulfill a ‘residency requirement’ which equates to 185 days per year, although there are other factors that the issuing authority need to take into account before they may issue a card.

Before any application is processed, a Europe wide database is checked to ensure that a driver who is issued with a driver card by one Member State, is not issued a card by another Member State whilst the first card is still valid.
