I had to stop work in July last year because of atrial fibrillation. I was put on blood thinning drugs which didn’t really seem to have any effect. Of course, because of covid ,I couldn’t get to see anyone. Finally got it sorted a couple of weeks ago with the old electric shock treatment. It now has to stay regular for 3 months before I can get my C+E back. This would take me to early to mid December .
While I have been off my digicard was due for renewal, which I did. It does not become live until 19 October. I know that normally I would have to carry my old card with me for 28 days, but I don’t think I will be going back to work until mid-December or maybe into January, depending on DVSA waiting times,so would I still have to carry my old card? I’m thinking that the new one will show at least 28 days of no use from its start date.
Don’t want to be sat on hold for ages waiting for DVSA to answer the phone,so thought I would ask the great and the good on here.
Thanks in advance.
You’ve only got to carry records for 28 days so I’d bin the old card 28 days after October 19th which is the day there card goes live.
New card becomes operational in October, you don’t expect to start work until December, should you get stopped the only issue is going to be why your new card isn’t showing anything for the weeks from October until that date. I can’t see any possible reason why you would need your old card.
As for medication not seeming to have any effect, did your atrial fibrillation have much in the way of obvious effects? I’ve known others with heart problems who had no idea how much in danger they were until they were hooked up to a medical device.

The only effect I noticed was a slight breathlessness. Back in 2018 I had an aortic valve replacement and breathlessness was the main symptom. After the op, I had a.f but it was then treated with warfarin.
I know what you mean about people not knowing about the dangers of this illness. When it was diagnosed last year, I was told that I had a vastly increased chance of stroke, heart attack and death. I would urge anyone who suffers breathlessness, general lethargy and sweating or feeling clammy to get to the doctor or hospital even call an ambulance.
Don’t do the typical man thing and think it will pass,IT WON’T.
