Digicard falling apart

Went for job interview Monday, all went well until I produced my Digicard. The metal SIM had dropped out and missing, not sure how/when it disappeared though last time I was using it the card was very hot at the end of the shift. Having examined the card it has rippled a bit because of the heat , so I assume whatever holds it in place (adhesive?) had dried out  Sent the card back to DVLA so will wait and see if they will replace it.

Tiger.

Provided you filled the form out properly you should get a nice shiny new card back within 5 working days of them receiving it.

Finally had my digicard back today, it was the same one I had sent for replacement :open_mouth:

DVLA said it was ā€˜damaged’ and not faulty and want Ā£19.00 for a new one, AND they want me to go and pick it up from one of their designated offices. Since none of their ā€˜designated’ offices are anywhere near me it’s not going to happen!

They charge me £38.00 for a card that falls apart after a months use, then expect me to pay £19.00 for a replacement. I was under the impression that under the sale of goods act, a product must be suitable for its intended purpose?

(A very ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  off) Tiger.

send them your details on an e-mail and quote the act - bet that will get results…

Complain to them. I would. Get a section number of the DVLA to write to. (Usually something like ā€œThe Manager, Input ā– ā– , DVLA, etcā€)

If it fell apart after a month, then I’d call that ā€œfaultyā€.

Just looked at my bank chip & pin card. It has a 3 year validity period. Whoever expected a smart card to last as long as 5 years of use is either living on another planet or is intent on scamming more money later when it fails before expiry.

Finally had my digicard back, it took 7 weeks. They decided I didnt have to pay for a new one after all, probably a decision made after I pointed out ā€˜The sale of goods act’ and the fact the card was not ā€˜fit for purpose’. It’s a bit academic now since I probably wont be driving again, but I felt better for putting the DVLA right
