I’m hearing some rumours that digital tacho’s will soon (the word “soon” used very loosely!) apply to all commercial vehicles under 3.5 tonnes? Just some people getting excited or is there any truth behind this?

don;t quote me on this but have heard rumoured that it applys to 3.5 tonners with tow bars that all as i workin for council at moment anything of that size taht got no need to pull trailer having them removed to avoid having tacho rules etc
But as say only rumourd not seen it in black and white
We have Trannys at our place that are a 3.5t gross on 06 plates, They have digi fitted as standard.

At the moment there are no plans to bring the weight threshold for tacho use below 3.5 tonnes (but I guess Brussels could prove me wrong 
).
Many van manufacturers are fitting tachos on the production line when the vehicle is ordered with a factory fit tow bar.
If the maximum authorised mass (including that of a trailer) exceeds 3500 kg then the tacho must be used.
