Myth.
Pull mine out, was in the habit of leaving it in.
Moved a couple of yards one night so some one else could park, forgot to reset to rest!
Since then pulled it out when parking up.
I take mine out and leave it in front of the speedo, less likely to drive off without sticking it in that way.
I normally leave it in, but have fallen foul of some of the stupid Digi’s that are around., normally in Dafs.
Some Dafs that I have driven, when you turn the ignition off, they automatically revert to rest instead of other work, no problem I hear you say, but on a couple of these, during the night I have turned on the ignition to have a look at the time whilst having a drink of water. The Digi has gone to the box POA mode, then of course as soon as I have turned the ignition off again, back to rest. So at some point during my daily rest it has shown POA.
So now in all Dafs that I have never driven before, I always do a run through, watching the modes, whilst turning on the ignition and off again.
These Dafs are a pain when doing multi drops, if you don’t know them, as every time you turn the ignition off to get out at the delivery point, they automatically revert to rest.

All this can be rectified at a tacho workshop.

I know that, but as I’m an agency driver I get to drive a lot of different vehicles for different companies, so I always check the Dafs to see how the Digi resets itself. It’s not my responsibility to get these reset, I have mentioned it to the transport managers, but at one of the companies, the response I got was leased vehicles, get on with it.
It takes daf 2 minutes to reset the mode to whatever you want it set at. My card goes in at the beginning of my working week and doesnt come out til i finish. Moving your truck without your card in is illegal even a couple of feet and it shows up on a download.
Thanks for the feedback everyone…
Sounds like its best to pull the card out, save the daily rest infringements!
good tip to keep card in front of speedo…
on a different note, does anybody know how Asda recruit there drivers? do they employ direct or thru agencies??

You may be right stevieboy, but in my driving world,‘illegal’ and ‘complying with the intended spirit
of the law’ are separated by sense of reality.
But I always remember,i’m me,not you…so it’s all good. Boats and floating etc…
Bend things too far and they break

Can be changed with the company card, doesn’t have to be a workshop.

I don’t know if the type 2 digital tachographs can have the default mode changed with a company card, but the older ones had to go to a tachograph centre to be changed.

It’s the new stoneridge exact type. Thought they’d all be the same but maybe not.
I pull. Sometimes you park up, and and 6 hours later another truck pulls in and the driver asks if you can move a few yards so he can back in/park/whatever. If you card is still in…you’re there for a lot bloody longer!
Drama Queens! it stays in AND I DONT MOVE FOR ANYONE OR ANYTHING!
FFS!
Well “THEY” be getting wifi connected tacho wands for the new head units in the next year or two then we’ll all be getting banned anyway so cheers.
That daily rest infringement for 30 seconds or moving that truck a couple of feet will have you down as a dangerous fly by night lunatic.
I seriously might knock it on the head when all that malark comes in.
You can’t do tramping without going ten minutes over here or there unless you are a far, far better man than me. At least now you have a fighting chance of getting to 12 months down the road without being stopped by the Man, but with these new wifi wands, it’s one more thing to constantly worry about, truckers paranoia to a whole new level.
