I’m going to be doin gan Agency job later on this week and they want me to have a Digi Tachograph which I have got. I haven’t driven for a while with little experience of using a Digi Tachograph. OK…to put it bluntly…I stick the card in and then what do I opt for?
If you google digital tachograph simulator you should get some useful hits, I downloaded one from a link on this site the other day but cant find it again
Seen this today, might help too.
When you put your card in select Yes for “Manual Entry” then using the up and down arrows select the time on the tacho to which you started your shift, click OK,put the mode to “other work” Cross Hammers which is your 30 minutes for getting paperwork and vehicle checks drinking coffee etc.
When it shows Confirm Entry? Press the OK button which will return to normal tacho display and check the mode switch is set to Cross Hammers if its on rest change it by pressing the “1” button on the left.
Hope this helps
Jeff.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr why 30 mins
That’s a notional 30 minutes. It’s important that you do your checks and that the time is correctly recorded. If that’s 5, 10, 15 minutes then that’s what it is. 30 does seem a bit long but I suppose if the coffee is really hot…

As Pete said its a notional 30 minutes as long as time is recorded for paperwork and checks its ok, and why is it when its raining your tractor unit is always the 1 furthest away from the office lol
Jeff.
The first manual entry option will be for the end of your last shift on the old type digi units. I usually just round up to the nearest 15 minutes. Mainly because I’m paid hourly and clock out at 15 minute intervals so my digi card time matches my clock time.
Next you’ll be asked for the start of your shift. I set this to my official start time. Crossed hammers is what I use for both settings in most cases.
there is NO Minimum time for vehicle checks …what Vosa want to see is some time doing vehicle checks… there is NO regulation on how long this takes

Than you for your helpful replies.
I’ve been told that this job might entail some waiting around to get unloaded etc. Should I put the Tacho on ‘Other Work’ during this time?
Put the tacho to POA (box with diagonal line) record time spent on your run sheet also this time doesnt count towards your 6hr WTD breaks when working out when to have your breaks

POA if you know how in advance how long the wait will be.
Use break like most others do.
This is why I get confused. Even seasoned drivers have differing opinions.

A digital tachograph will wrongly count POA as break so after 45 minutes of POA the tachograph display will show the available driving time before a break as reset to 4½ hours, however POA does not legally count as break so cannot reset the driving time.
If you get paid for breaks save yourself a lot of hassle and confusion and use break instead of POA.
About the only time POA is better than break is if you don’t want to reset the driving time or don’t get paid for all breaks.
