Digi question..

Pressed the wrong button when trying to set the vehicle entry instead of ferry/train mode I hit the OUT button :grimacing:

Now I can’t get the sodding thing to go away!!

Any idea what it means? And how to clear it?

Many thanks.

Probaby “out of scope”

Go back into the menu and see if there is a “IN” option to hit.

yeah, it’s out of scope

as has been said it’s “out of scope”, In the menu go to “Entry / Vehicle / Out End”.

I don’t know why you can’t get rid of it because as soon as you press “Out Begin” you shouldn’t see the message again until you select to get out of it in the menu, anyway the above should clear it.

Also it should clear automatically when you eject your driver card.

All sorted now thanks.

€10,000 fine in France apparently for having “out of scope” on your card.

If you’ve hit out of scope when you were trying to use the ferry option that will have messed up your daily rest period and the data will now show insufficient daily rest, and flag an infringement, so a printout with an explanation of the error would be advisable.

It was on the train so it didn’t effect my daily rest just had to pull over and take a 45min break when I got off it.

Thanks for that though Neil hope you are well.

The only time you use the ferry option is when interrupting your daily rest to board or disembark from a ferry or train. If you weren’t interrupting your daily rest there was no need to use it. You couldn’t use it on the train anyway as there is no access to a bunk on the train which is a requirement of interrupting the daily rest.

Drive on train, stick it on break, drive off train is all you need to do, no need to go poking about in the menu and ballsing things up. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m very well thank you, hope things are good with you.

That’s very interesting as I didn’t use to do it until I was told to as I was told a driver in France had a few hundred euros taken off them for not doing it

I won’t bother now thanks again.

Always use the boat mode regardless of whether taking a break or not and have never had anyone say anything about it and that includes the French gives a fuller picture especially when changing countries

Selecting the ferry mode does no more than mark the data with the reason you are interrupting your daily rest; the digital equivalent of the biro we used to use to write the reason on the back of a chart. That’s all it does so if you aren’t interrupting your daily rest there us no requirement or benefit to using it. It doesn’t give a fuller picture, it isn’t a mode. Your tacho won’t record a special mode to show you are on a ferry or train because you press it, it marks the data and then the tacho will just record whatever mode you leave it on while onboard the vessel, usually Break.

It mKes zero difference when changing countries, the start and end countries you enter each shift will take care if that.

Agree with what you are saying however if you use the mode button whenever you are on a boat then it marks your card with the exact time you were on the vessel. There is a thread on here about keeping ferry tickets to show when you entered the country well with the ticket and marking the card there can be no doubt as to what you have been doing. All of this just corroborates your movements especially when having to answer questions about cabotage as we all know what the tacograph says is not necessarily the truth hence the large doses of suspicion that you can be met with when in a foreign country

There is no requirement to show when you enter a country, and in the case of most UK drivers it would only be France, Belgium, Holland or Republic of Ireland you enter via ferry, maybe Spain, so what about all the other border crossings? What are you doing yo show what time you crossed from Belgium into Holland, Germany or Luxembourg for example?

Ffs t is you are using the tacho incorrectly by using the option to explain a daily rest interruption when you aren’t interrupting daily rest, so your tacho is indeed not telling the truth. That’s something that could cost you a lump of money if you get stopped by an over zealous official.

I spent 20 odd years driving all over Europe on both analogue and digital tacho and was never once asked to explain what tine I entered a country in any stop or control. I can’t ever remember being met with large doses of suspicion either. I just used to use the ts ho as it was intended.

Fair enough if that was your experience but in mine have been asked to prove which ferry I used to enter France when I was stopped at Montaban and having driven both UK and Irish registered lorries in the UK the questions you are asked when driving a foreign lorry in the UK are different to those when you are driving a UK registered lorry. Not disputing the law with you or the use of the tacograph just saying that in my experience the more you can show the better. And if I am as you say using the tacograph incorrectly why has this never been pointed out to me on the numerous occasions that I have been stopped after all an easy couple of hundred of euros there for the gendarme to be had there.
