Digi Card question

Hallo everyone

what happens if i forgot to take mine into work?

i left my card in the house so i used an analogue chart and marked on the back of it what i did all day would that be ok as long as it was not a habit?

Cheers

Should be ok, but don’t make a habit of it. And take printouts from the tacho if it’s a digi vehicle, and attach them to the card. If fact, take 2 printouts, and make sure the boss gets one.
The motto of truck driving these days, is don’t be like a builder, cover your ■■■ at all times.

Technically it’s an offence to drive a vehicle fitted with a digital tachograph without a driver card unless the card is faulty, lost or stolen, if you forget the driver card you’re not supposed to drive the vehicle until you’ve got the card

Rather than using a chart you would have been better to do printouts for the vehicle before and after the shift, it’s still an offence but would at least show what driving has been done during the shift and what breaks have been taken, I would do the printouts asap.

Here’s the information for doing the printouts for a Siemens digital tachograph, you want page 5 and the section marked “Main Menu — Vehicle Unit Printout”

And here’s what information you need to add to the printouts.

Lost, stolen or malfunctioning driver cards

Where it is impossible to use a driver card (e.g. where it has been lost, stolen or damaged or is malfunctioning) a driver may drive without the card for a maximum of 15 calendar days (or longer
if this is necessary for the vehicle to be returned to its premises) provided that he produces two
printouts — one at the start of the journey and another at the end. Both printouts must be marked with:

  • the driver’s name or driver card or licence number, so the driver can be identified;
    - any manual entries needed to show periods of other work, availability, and rest or break; and
    - the driver’s signature.
The driver must report the problem to DVLA and apply for a new card within 7 calendar days.

thanks everyone

i was double manned, i should have just let the other driver drive

i have only done it once and i now make sure the card is with me before leaving the house.

i will try and get printouts from the truck i was in, just in case

put card in wallet with other cards
you aint going anywhere without money are you

I don’t do that because I don’t like having things with my address on in my wallet. It makes stealing your identity too easy if you get you wallet nicked.

I keep mine in my work bag cos I’ll never go to work without that.

Not picking tach cause ur good
Just a note cause some dont realise
If you have a digi card its a REQUIREMENT BY LAW that whilst driving ( at work ) even if your not driving a digi veh and you havent ever driven one You MUST HAVE IT WITH YOU the fines are the same as not carring your tacho’s with you etc, so if you aint used it for ages you still should have it with you as required. We still have guys that dont carry them cause we only got a puddle jumper

That’s a good point and as you say one that some people either forget or don’t realise.

In fact if you have a driver card it must be carried regardless of the type of tachograph fitted in the vehicle being driven even if it’s never been used and even if you have no plans for using it in the future

I’ll echo what Tachgograph says, I got sent home for mine (forgot wallet) even though I was in an anologue vehicle that day  .
If you’ve lost your card     then you can still drive. If by some miracle you find it again (cos the missus had it and thought it was a new credit card) so much the better.
If you forget it, you either go get it before you drive or your potentially opening a can of worms.

I just keep mine round my neck in a card holder. A lot of guys I know have damaged theres by sitting on it in their wallet all day. don’t know why it would damage these and not your other cards though! Just google ‘tacho card holder’ theres loads about and only a couple of quid. I keep it hung up with my jacket, not going to forget that.
