Hi, I am going for an interview tomorrow before i start my night shift, After speaking to the tm, he said we would go for a bit of a drive round and then a test on wtd and tacho. No problem with the tests but i told him i couldnt use my digi as i was working that night, I was told that i would be ok driving round without my card in as i was not for hire or reward. Is this right ? what if i get a tug by vosa?
Cheers all.
It’s highly unlikely you will get stopped & an explanation would suffice, like he said its just an assessment, just do a print out of it & sign it with the reason on it as an assessment drive …

No it’s not correct, hire and reward doesn’t come into it with EU regulations.
Will the short assessment drive put you over your driving/work hours with your shift ?
If so it’s up to you whether or not you chance it, but be aware that a tug by VOSA or the police will mean problems if you’re not recording your driving time.
■■■■ - I misplaced my digicard somewhere and cannot find it for this assessment
so will have to show that I know how to do manual entries …
… ooh look I found it again just before my night shift
I had the same problem 6 weeks ago so I bit the bullet on a night shift and did the assessment. They didn’t bother with the driving bit though since they know me. Paperwork exercise only. Oddly enough, my annual assessment is now well out of date

Is it running bent if you misplace it for a while and do what you should do in that situation?
I certainly would not use a card that your current employer downloads every few weeks, I would use the spare one!
Speaks volumes about a company that tells you you’ll be ok when you know full well that it’s wrong.

Yep… and Saaamon knows all about companies that like to bend the rules. You on the straight and narrow now young man?

It IS running bent if you “PRETEND” to lose your card, which is what you are advising the OP to do. It is a serious offence and potentially dangerous as he is going back to work without the proper rest period.
What would I do? Easy, if I was being paid for the assessment, have the night off. If I wasn’t being paid for an assessment, I wouldn’t be doing it… simples.

Very true… clearly not DHL or Stobart etc…
How would anyone know if you were stopped? I’m assuming because its an interview that you won’t be driving that truck again. So it won’t show anything in a roadside check because you haven’t used your card?
Edit: apologies, only realised you meant if you were stopped while doing your assessment. I blame my slowness on the fact that its Monday
I went out the other day for an assessment and the first thing I was told to do was to put the card in…
Lose the card for a few hours do manual entry job done
Good luck with the assessment
I don’t think I’d want to work for someone that told me not to bother putting my card in. I would like to know what the assessor would say if you did as he said & then you got stopped or, heaven forbid, had a bump, deny all knowledge and let you get bent over probably.
