for me it’s easier to just eject the card , the only thing i know about the digi tacho is what i read from the manual , & seem to be doing ok so far , well no complaints from the tacho reading people or VOSA so must be doing something right !
Very interesting thread, i didnt know about entering the end/start location when leaving the card in over night. I take my card out everynight as my vehicle may be used in the morning but i have learnt something new.
It’s probably so drivers don’t leave it in all night with “other work” set on the mode. I think £420 fine from the company is a bit harsh and illegal is it not? One of those fines and it’d be see you later from me anyway.
So if you leave it in all night on rest, you have to manually enter start and finish country every shift? You’re pulling my leg? May as well just get in to the habit of ejecting it at night and put it back in for next shift, save having to remember to change the mode to rest and faff about going in to menu and selecting start and finish country.

Takes about 10 seconds each time, far quicker than the ejection and insertion process.

you could always go back to the good old fashioned
take chart out, write down exact end location, write down km’s then get new chart write down name, exact start location, write the dates and the km’s
digi just enter end location job done

It takes a few seconds, on a Siemens unit anyway.
Press OK to enter the menu system
Press down 3 times to get to Entry Driver 1
Press OK (Start Country comes up, last country used is flashing )
Press OK, wait a couple of seconds till, Start Country Entered comes up or
Press down once (End Country comes up, last country used is flashing )
Press OK, wait a couple of seconds till, End Country Entered comes up then
Press Exit 3 times to return to the normal display.
Job done.
If you’re parking up for the night you then change mode to suit.
If you are parking up in a different country to the one you started in, the last three countries entered are available at the top of the list. If it isn’t one of those, you have to scroll up or down the alphabetic order list. The same for your start country.
Every week I finish in the UK and start in Holland or Belgium and return later in the week, so have to change countries almost every night. On UK work, that won’t be a problem.
I do like the digi’s, an improvement over the wax charts, still don’t know how to do a manual entry though.
I think they really missed an opportunity with these digi tachs, why they didn’t make the head unit hold all relevent driver card data for a year as well as the other stuff it holds so operator’s just have to download the head unit every month is beyond me, pain in the arris downloading driver cards all the time.
