Differential lock

hi

some trucks have the ability to plug a computer in and check to see if the truck as been driven with some thing wrong all depends on the year and whether the the truck as a computer port you could ask the agency to see if there can download the data and check to see if it was you who drove it on that day

just an idea

If you managed to drive all week with
diff lock on.

I would be mighty proud of your handling around corners etc…

Take no notice of this company,
and dont let it get to you

The beauty of being a agency driver you can
just walk away.

You would notice if diff lock was on, Leeds city council once had them all deactivated on thier bin wagons cos some numpty didn’t know what the button was for and ended up going straight on into a car, good fun in winter when half the crews were sat waiting for gritters/recovery.

the crown wheel and pinion would be in sh8t if you drove for too long with the lock on.
the half shafts would tear the the pinion to pieces.
just think about it.
you never did any damage.
its either snaps or works.

Obviously a firm that wants to make a fast buck out of the agency at the cost of the drivers reputation.
My lad had a similar thing done.Reported for a days work, given a truck with a cab full of ■■■■,dirty windows and mirrors. The FOLLOWING day,the agency had a report from the firm that the driver had left the cab full of ■■■■ and had broken the pallett truck,(which my lad had not used).
My lad sent a letter to the agency saying how the accusations had upset him because he had done the job concienciously,(sp) because he would like to work for the firm again.
The firm must have had some record of this as the agency kept my lad in work, but not for that particular firm.
Unfortunately,us agency drivers are whipping boys for a lot of firms,an excuse for not paying the agency fees I think you’ll find!
Fortunately I work for a firm that has its own agency and I can’t fault them.
In this case I can’t for the life of me see how they can accuse you of driving with the diff lock in,as has been said, you would know at the first bend, and even if you were green,it would make you call in to say there was something wrong with the truck!

sorry to hear someone’s trying to get you done for something you cant have done without knowing it. :imp:

dont forget it could have got red hot and boiled the oil, you’d still have drive but still knackered

Ive had the diff lock light come on, (on a Scania) while driving down the M69. I pulled over, double checked that it wasnt switched on, then phoned the office, who told me to carry on driving. seems they knew abouta faulty/shorting sensor on the axil. and I then noticed that the dash light was flickering on/off.
But in any case, if I notice any warning fault lights, I phone the traffic desk up and inform em straight away, that then puts the onus on them to decide what course of action you should undertake. 9/10 times they`ll be reluctant to phone a fitter out, and tell you to continue on and VOR it upon return to the yard.

With the DAFs Im finding the exhaust emmision fault warning light is coming on, this is somehow linked to the ad blu system. After a while the ECU will go into reduced power mode. sometimes, but not alway, pulling up and turning off the ignition does reset it, but today this occured 3 times with the same “57” truck. and not always sucessfully resetting with the ignition off/on.
The same fault has occured to me, and others with several other trucks (DAF`s) in the yard

well the crux of my dilema is that the agency are not telling me anymore info only to tell me that my services are no longer required…out of pur interest and to confirm my honesty and that im not mad where is the diff lock situated on the daf cf just want to make sure that i am not dreaming this whole escapade up

the switch on mine, is just to the left of the instrument screen, near the handbrake, and as I have said before, it has a safety catch, and is almost impossible to switch it on accidentally

As far as I remember, it’s a pull out and lift.

Does it need a new diff? Have the halfshafts snapped? Is the oil shot to bits? Are there big lumps of metal on the magnetic bung? (i say big lumps because you’ll always geta few filings) Was the truck difficult to drive? Did it try and slide round corners? Was it making any noise that could relate to a bearing failure? If the answer is no to all of these questions you have nothing to worry about. The diff lock wasn’t in! Simple.

Or the guy who got in the truck after you does,nt like agency drivers and wants you off the job. Am I just being paranoid?

You would deffintly know if you were driving with diff locks in as soon as you tried to turn a corner most trucks have a peice you have to move on the switch to engage them. i know daf cf/foden alphas do

you dont have a pic do you of it as i say its just to stop my paranoia that is taking me over…i just would not like to make the same mistake again
