I delivered to two Tescos yesterday. The difference between them was remarkable and they were within about 10 mins of each other. The first Tesco was an utter shambles. No loading dock so I had to handball eight pallets off (well they were crisps and I’m trying to loose weight so I wasn’t too bothered). They got right stroppy about the fact I didn’t have a tail lift (not my problem, I don’t plan the routes now eff off - to the store manager). Sent one lad out to help me who moaned all the time (allright, it was raining and they didn’t give him any wet weather gear . I lent him the waterproofs and hat I carry as I was in the trailer
). They tried to get me to back into a entrance that was too small for an artic
- good job I’d had a look at it first. Then the store manager hassled me every five munites until I told him I’d drop him if I saw him again before I’d finished handballing the load - takes a lot to get me like that as well
).
The second drop couldn’t have been more different. The guys actually pulled the load off the back for me. Sent me to the canteen whilst they did it and gave me a card I could get a cup of coffee with whilst I was up their (the machine’s a card operated jobby). I admittadley went in with an attitude on the second one, and apolgised to them for it and explained why. They said the first one was well known for being stroppy, so they try to be as nice as they can to the drivers when they come down. They don’t want them thinking all Tescos are like that.
Thanked them very much for their efforts and said “I’ll come here again” on the way out, which got a grin and a wave in return.
I find it remarkable the difference between two stores a stones throw from each other. I can only assume it’s all down to the managers .
