Report it to Northamptonshire Police?..you’ve got more chance of seeing the Queen around here than you are a copper, too busy riding around Northampton town centre and up and down the M1
Yes but it still needs reporting whether or not they look into it, you will get a crime number and then it is on the figures as another fuel theft, if only 1 in 5 reports these fuel thefts nothing will be ever be done, the scum that do it need to be seen to be sorted, a few jail sentences will start to make some of them think together with the confiscation of vans/trucks and caravans to remiburse the cost of bringing them to justice.
SHYTOT:
Some of the threads on here leave me wondering about the attitude & mantality of some driver’s
if there aint a problem we will create one, just for the sake of it

I do, if I ever see a van in a layby, I always slow down for a look.
I did report someone acting very suspiciously in the layby near south elmsall (now closed) and swapped trailers at ferrybridge, on my way back, there was a police dog van, traffic car and the van still in the layby next to an artic.
The van had his back doors open and it had a specially made tank, half the height of the back and about half of the length of the back and it was a big tank half full of liquid.
RESULT.
I did report a sus ■■■■■■ with a caravan on the back at leicester forest msa, but not heard anything back from that

Right for the record. I was in the first layby from the M1 heading towards brackley. I was told by planner when couldnt get fuel from the shell garage to go to the Bp further brackley bound. This is shut (I didnt know! ) I was then told by office to go towards tesco in brackley. I only got a mile from bp garage as the pipes from the sender unit had come apart when they took it out and after draining me replaced it in the tank. After getting going I put £200 quid in ( I could of filled the truck twice over…). I just didnt do it in the first instance as Iv done it for a previous employer and got nothing back!

Jeez, thats the company that needs some bad publicity, driver pays for fuel to help out and doesn’t get it back■■?
Largest possible letters please, name and shame, make sure they never get their greasy paws on a decent employee again.
I would name and shame him, but since he no longer operates - indeed lives - is there any point? although I could afford for it to happen that way again, Id rather it didnt. Some of the guys who posted here are far too judgemental.
‘‘The van had his back doors open and it had a specially made tank, half the height of the back and about half of the length of the back and it was a big tank half full of liquid’’.
Just to clarify … How do you know all this, did you stop to have a good look from close up, and did you dip the tank ? Surprised the police let you interfere at an alleged crime scene !!

Was you parked behind the trailer with crime hotspot all over it which is regularly parked in that layby?
This is the problem with today’s drivers can’t think for themselves?
Office told me to do it?
Sat nav told me to turn into the nearest field?

I’m not going to give you [zb] for parking where you did, but you might have found it more useful to have stood your ground, and got your company to have sorted out payment or repair whilst at the Shell Garage, (as you were not prepared to get burnt by another employer by putting cash in from your own pocket). It wouldve been cheaper for them in the long run.
I find it quite odd that you carried on just because everyone else told you too. you are the man on the ground, you should say sorry no go no deisel.

Could you not have helped your boss out and put a few quid in the tank to get you to where you can get fuel so not to put out other road users when you run out of fuel . I don’t suppose it was his fault you parked in a hot spot for truck crime
Does the truck need a service, tax, mot etc no worrys boss, my shout. Its not the drivers fault if fuel is stolen no matter where you park. If your load is stolen should we pay for that aswell?
What if you park in a hotspot for crime not knowing it because you have no local knowledge of the area. Is that our fault. I only carry £10 max and no cards. The garage should have taken payment over the phone.
Pay for fuel that gets stolen as not to inconvience you… i think not
I would fill the tank if it was needed, I know I would get the money straight back on return. I also carry a credit card with a decent limit on it just in case the brown stuff hits the fan, I can get a hotel, train home, taxi, food or anything else that I might need in an emergency.
Just refusing to help out (if you can)is stupid.
If I worked for a small firm it might be different, but I can’t see Turners not having the £500 for a tank of diesel.
While on for Murfitts one Saturday afternoon (when truckers were truckers ) I thought I had run out of fuel on the autostrada but managed to get into a little laybye place with an emergency phone, picked it up … Hello, blah blah blah, ‘we come to you’ (hope he does before the polizia do !!) turns out it was not lack of fuel but blocked fuel filters so ‘no problemo’ and away he went to return not fifteen minutes later with said new filters only to find the priming pump was fubarred so off he went again to return with new pump which he fitted and told me to follow him so I could draw some cash and pay (about £180 IIRC) It turned out he was the local Iveco truck agent in the next village, jammy or what I got the cash back out of the office quicker than the truck got a proper service… Ps. fuel gauge was a wee bit out due to the double tanks or summit.
