Diesel Protection

With the increased threat of damage to existing diesel tanks as well as diesel theft when your vehicles are parked up, are there any existing security systems that manage to protect it or does a reworking of where the tanks are sited need to be considered?

I understand that they need to be the size they are due to capacity, a low centre of gravity and ease of use for the driver but surely there are benefits in getting suitable protection rather than risk losing ££££ of fuel?

Being only a mere driver and mostly an agency driver I only tend to see the tip of the iceberg of it but even so. One company I worked at had double skinned tanks and nozzle protection but they also spent more time actually driving than resting as they ran their vehicles day and night. I’m not sure how much weight it did add but the downside of that is removing the capacity for what the vehicle can carry, but I don’t know the figures…

I thought it best to post it here in the Owner & Fleet section but the moderators may disagree

Not a lot you can do really, side skirts and a chasis infil with lockable hinged flaps along with anti syphons and protection over the sender unit is about as much as you can do.

Hi Saratoga,

I’m as sure as you are that this topic is of great interest to O/Ds in these days of expensive fuel AND increased diesel theft. I can see no reason to move it elsewhere.

I have an anti syphin neck but I only have a 480 litre tank and never fill up at night. It’s hard to be thief proof as if they really want to they will just puncture the tank but it just minimised the risk
