Just wondering is there any others on here that do as much driving as well as help maintain the fleet ?
i kind of do slightly more repaires than driving. work for a specialized transport company in sakatoon, long wide heavy loads trailers and combos up to 13 axles. when it gets busy summertimes i go out quite often its a nice change, but the maintanance side of it keeps me and the other mechanic pretty busy.

I think that was the way the old haulage men worked, it certainly worked with me. I was in the workshops helping the mechanic, when a big job like a difficult MOT or engine rebuild was needed the boss took Stuart another driver, off the road for a couple of days.
Between the three of us we would get the vehicle back on the road as quick as possible. When I was 16 my main task apart from keeping the kettle full, was going to Hull on my motorbike to collect parts and clean all the parts in a drum of petrol/diesel mix while sat by the salamander!!!
I always remember trying to bungee strap a full set of F88 brake shoes onto the pillion of a Honda SS50
hi wheelnut,
i used to have to go and fetch parts on an old butchers bike with the basket on the front , it was powered by one of those 50cc engines that rubbed on the rear tyre, i remember once collecting a aec cylinder head, the front wheel was grossly overloaded and we started off weaving allover the road, then it started raining, the combination of wet tyre and overload the friction between tyre and engine was lost, with a loud bang and the smell of burnt rubber the tyre blew, we came to a crashing stop, the cyl head crashed to the floor bending the valves, then i had to get it loaded up again and push it back to the workshop, which nearly killed me, where a smack around the earhole awaited me lol ,happy days eh
cheers diesel
