We are involved with this, but not in the trucking world yet, so this is just a little bit of a a general wondering really… doesn’t seem to get talked about much, unless i have missed the point! Unlike Ag, where it’s a big concern!
Just wondered about your thoughts and opinions, experiences good and bad, who you would use, and how much you would expect to pay! 
so what’s the difference between chipping and tuning ?
Chipping basically increases the pressure in the fuel lines, or the delivery pressure from the Pump, this is the same with most forms of ECU remapping.
Tuning systems work slightly differently, by alterering the amount of time that an injector is open. This then reduces the amount of pressure that is added to other parts such as the fuel pump.
A chip is something that is soldered in, and a tuning module is something that has its own brain, and can be removed in a short amount of time, if there is probelme with the box, or the vehicle is sold etc. Tuning systems can also be turned on or off as required.
I thought most diesel ‘chips’ increased the turbo pressure?
There are many units out there that do just that, and it is these systems that give tuning (or chipping) such a bad name.
I tend to have a luddite view of these things
If they were so good the manufacturer would have fitted it in the first place 
No they won’t fit them in the first place because it means that their hardware is running at its limits & doesn’t allow for future improvements at little cost.
bought a diesel tuning module for my car 6 months ago and the car now has more power, more torque more MPG and more MPH!!! Excellent
I had a VW Golf TDi PD 130 a few years ago - i used a Revo remap and the difference was startling.
Better fuel economy unless booting it ,10mph on indicated top speed and more torque than the PPP Impreza that i had before it.
If you run a car with a modern diesel lump in it then a remap is a cheap way to a lot more fun.
