Diesel Bug...anyone else had it?

Just bought an 18 tonner, had been standing for 9 months apparently.Broke down 3rd day in use,pre-filter full of 'orrible black stuff, thick layer on bottom of tank too.Google search reveals “Diesel Bug”,bacteria that mostly affects marine engines that don’t get used very often.Trucks not normally affected because the fuel is used up pretty quick.I’m having the tank /system cleaned as we speak, but I’ve got 20 gallons of diesel I can’t use,and I’m worried about the bacteria still being in the system.Anyone know of a treatment I can stick in the tank to kill it off once and for all?.

Hope it helps

Wurth do a diesel fuel system renovator which cleans gummed up injectors and pumps. It seems to work.

Not had a problem with a diesel bug as such but unleaded petrol can go off.

Normally in a motorcycle or small engines. the fuel can gum up the system, especially fuel injection. The only cure is to drain the fuel and refill with fresh fuel.
