Diary.

Every year in July i pack my bags and head for RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire as a volunteer for the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust, here i join about 2,500 other volunteers for the Royal International Air Tattoo. My task is to help with the transport side of the Tattoo, driving anything from golf buggies to artics. This year was my 17th year so i thought i would do a diary.

This is my base for the next 10 days, sleeping accomadation can be seen on the left, the row of grey and blue cabins, all single with showers and wc.

Some of the first vehicles to arrive are deliverd by these guys.

And these are some of the vehicles, they will mostly be used for VIP transport.

.

.

Next up are the motorbikes used for ■■■■■■ duties on the airfield.

.

.

On the tuesday i go down to Night Freight and pick up a unit and trailer ( its on loan ) for a trip up to Blackpool on the Wednesday to pick up deck chairs.

So wednesday its an early start 0430 to beat the traffic and arrive at Blackpool for 0830.

.

After parking up on the sea front its off to find breakfast.

.

.

Any thing we buy on the road is all paid for, allthough we dont get paid we dont go short on anything.
After breakfast its time to load the deckchairs, i normaly get my head down while they load it or if its nice weather have a sit on the beach.

.

.

.

A steady plod back to Fairford and park the Truck up untill the morning when the deck chairs will be unloaded by Air Cadets on there anual camp.

Thursday morning and i am escorted onto the airfield by a young lady on a bike.

.
Here she is.
.

And these are the Air Cadets unloading the deck chairs. They really work hard and are a very happy bunch, allways smiling and having the crack, puts your faith back in the youth of today,a really polite bunch.
