Diary - Just like Old Times

Excellent diary Bb, I used to like going to Swiss, just hated the performance of getting in and out!!

If I read your post right…are you getting your own “SWISS BANK ACCOUNT”!!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

There are a few characters that i know / knew that would love to get one of those!! :open_mouth:

Spardo:
Do you have to do a complete swap of your UK licence for a Swiss one if you drive a Swiss reg. motor then - just like here in France?

No, As it is only for Driving Trucks, I still have my UK one for my car.

I can drive a Swiss car in Swiss on my UK License, just not a truck!

Yeah, we are paid in Swiss Francs(CHF) into a Swiss account, then transferred to my UK account.

Its only a wages account though, nothing lash or fancy. :frowning:

I just prefer going Brussel’s, It is a fafr easier drive IMO that Lille to Namur.

That was why I used to favour that way. Plus Brussels Airport is an OK place for parking with little or no chance of acquiring unwanted passengers. I also had another couple of out of the way parking areas I used. The lay-by frequented by the gay blokes was a good one It was like having your own pink security force as it was so busy with them getting up to whatever the hell they got up to no one could have done anything to your rear without being spotted. By rear I mean the rear of the vehicle. :stuck_out_tongue:

BuzzardBoy:

Habay:
Never been very keen on Habay and only heard brits wanting to fight each other or drink each other under the tables.

Just about sum’s Habay up.

Never liked the place. If Belgium had haemorrhoids Habay truckstop is where the Preparation H would be applied. There are better options in that area for parking, the truckstop a few junctions further up was good as very few Brits used it.

I have only used that one once, not too bad.

I usually stop in Mark’s in Lux, just off J1. Nice and pretty quiet even though its a Fuel Station as well. They do nice Sandwiches there too…

The only problem with that is the possibility of being nicked for leaving the transit route.

Very true, but as long as you are buying Diesel, they always used to pay your fines…(Last person i know of who got nicked was 2 weeks ago and was fined 140 Euro’s)

The Baccy place round the corner(Think its Route66) pay your fines too if you get nicked going into them.

what a craking post

Loved the read and pics :sunglasses:

Betz:
just wonder why most the brits driver rather drive to Calais via Bruxelles from South (Lux, Leige and Aachen) not via Charleroi - Mons - Lille E42 / A16 ?

like before i read the Coffeeholic’s diary book - he did most drive via bruxelles for calais ? make me feel wonder what is wrong with E42/A16 route ? maybe too much traffic or keep away from Dounne ? :unamused:

I also use calias/brussells rather than lille/namur,better road and more chances of over taking

brillaint readand great pics brings back memorys and its nice to know there is still some lads enjoying it out there

excellent diary and pictures buzzard boy, look forward to the next one!!

personally im not a big fan of switzerland, great scenery but thats about it i feel (although i have;nt done a hell of a lot there), but thats what makes us all different i guess!!

do you know if westropes are still doing work for trans maritime?

Great diary and pics. If you get fined for going off route to Marks, he will reimburse you with the cash when you go in to fill up, we used to go in there all the time for diesel when i was on the Greece job. Do they still give their ‘regular’ customers Xmas presents every year?? I have got a washbag, and a few towels etc from them as a thank you for my custom.
There used to be a Hueber Messerschmitt series 2 parked at Uniex in Thetford, i havent been there for a year or more so dont know if it still parks there.
