,with that in drives another of our trucks who procedds to explain he was picking up the 12 oclock load
[not looking good
],said hed run the 180 miles up empty to pick a load up.anyway after lots of debate between office and collection point and planning they decide nothing there so told pull the trucks out and run back to yard empty
,but said id ring up to see if there any thing to collect closer to home, nothing

See, you are learning, let the planners worry about the little details. Be like the Nazis, just follow orders

im trying to stay positive,
How much are the dynamic duo telling us what it costs per mile to run an empty truck per mileâ– â– ?
I finished work one Friday after planning all the trucks for the following few days. Got married on the Saturday and went on honeymoon on the Sunday, on the Monday I had a call from my boss asking me why I had run a truck to Copenhagen empty when there was no load (we did this every week because the trailer needed to be sterile to carry pharmacuticals back to the UK) Didnt read all my emails properly the week before cos my head was in the clouds, if I did I would have realised the factory in Copenhagen was on shutdown that week so sent a truck 25 hours driving + 10 hours back to germany empty for nothing…
( good job my boss is my dad, I think I would have been in deep ■■■■■if he wasn’t)
I put it down to experience and now I double check everything and don’t assume anything

Don’t tell me when you got there they said "Of all the warehouses, in all the towns, in all the World, you have to come to this one, and we haven’t got a load for you. "

One the way down our Maroc office had had a dispute about rates & the clothes factory gave the load to an old mate of mine - the late Bill King - without bothering to tell anyone. I pulled up to the gate & there was Bill. I still didn’t cotton on & started backing in to the ramp next to him…
Its all good if Bill got the load Harry he was a sound Geezer. Manno used to run us down empty all the time, I went from Convoy in Ireland to Casablanca one time via Stranraer, oh such happy days
Went from Moscow empty one trip & ended up loading in Freiburg Germany after my load in Baravanichi Bellarusse got cancelled

Jan De Rooy was best; Tip Portugal -run empty to Milan - load for Barna.
A trip I liked was for Eurotrans - Solerno load strawberries for Berlin - reload Hannover for Athens- & start all over again.
Some years back whilst working for a company out of Warwick, I was agency but with them for a block month. Came in on the Saturday and checked the paperwork. Boss spotted me and told me I had a run next week down to Reigate, Brentwood and Bexhill but didn’t say which days. I did the runs I had to on Saturday (a local to Northants and back) then off home. I had to be in Brentwood for 0800 on Monday so figured I’d get there in 4 hours and have an hour to get lost or have a break. Either way, I got there way before time and as they came in early too I was tipped and reloaded by 0700. Back then I had more difficulty in planning the time element of journeys, but decided it was best to be early than late!
I had the weeks paperwork with me as it is all kept in a file and checked the address for the Reigate job and Bexhill. The Reigate one didn’t have a date or time. Only said ‘Noon’ and Bexhill was for Wednesday. So off I went. I was in a 7.5t and in those days it was unrestricted so got to Reigate before noon, late morning and they spent an hour hunting for my load.
Eventually a manager came out and asked to see the paperwork. He recognised from the ‘codes’ the load wasn’t in yet but they had neglected to put the date on my paperwork. Seems a printer jam had forced it to come out one line wrong. [zb]. Returned to base and was queried why I was late. Explained, a few laughs from some of the other drivers and the boss came out. Queried the paperwork and he reckons he clipped a note to the paperwork to say it was a run for Wednesday but couldn’t explain why he didn’t write it on the paperwork itself.
After that I was a lot more careful with checking dates and times…
i ran from edinburgh to the goodyear factory in amiens france empty ,loaded there for brummie then back out empty to load at goodyears again, quality
guys on the loading bay at amiens wernt to happy cause i was half an hour late
lol
