Well thats crimbo out the way and its back into work for me on the afternoon of the 4th jan
With a load of sleds & atv`s going east with 9 drops in Ontario and 1 in Qubec should keep be busy for a few days

Ran as far as Nipigon nice and easy as my first drop is Wednesday morning in Sudbury, its a nice run going across Ontario

Picked up a bit of snow along the way

Into Sudbury Tuesday evening top up the tanks ready for tomorrow to start getting rid of some of these drops

1st drop off and head down to Port Sydney for drop 2, they have me on my way in 20 mins, now this is more like it a trip thats going well

Oh dear looks like i spoke to soon, as i go and get stuck leaving there car park :blush: :blush: :blush:

So after a call to HQ sees me on my way again after about an hour
Only took this pic of the rescue squad as i felt enough of a t1t in the first plase with out asking em to pose for pics :laughing:

So it now a bit of a push on to try and get another drop off today over in Chapeau just into Qubec
HWY 60 going across there was just beautiful


Get a result at drop 3, there open late so i get to run over to Rockland just east of Ottawa to be on the doorstep for the next morning.
Thursday see me get 5 drops done, Rockland x2, Metcalfe, Kingston and Bowmanville then run across to Brodhagen for the night.
Soon tipped here Friday morning

And into my last drop mid morning in Dorchester just east of London

Get my reload through, a load of steel cladding from Oakville ON going to Saskatoon SK for 8am Tuesday morning, but first its into the Mississauga drop yard to switch trailers then to Oakville
No time for sight seeing today and i am in the wrong lane

Get to have the night at home on Sunday,
Leave Monday and park in Saskatoon and tip first thing on Tuesday, get my reload through just after breakfast and i am on my way down to Regina for 2 coils bound for Calgary.

All loaded in no time and on my way, get as far as Brooks AB and its time for shower & sleep, into Calgary and tipped by 8.30 and i already have my next job through, this year is starting well
Run just north west of Calgary to Sundre for a load of timber for the states but i am only running it bach to our Steinbach yard as my truck is booked in for service Friday
Could do with a bit of soap & water over it

Its a woman driving this so i think i`ll stay put untill shes finished :laughing: :laughing:

All Strapped and ready to roll and ill be home for Thursday, ran as far as Swift Current which gives me a nice easy run in

Looks like its going to be a nice day for the run home

Then again i could be wrong, Husky car park Regina


When you worked here 30 yrs you get a new truck in silver, this one is Tinys he didnt want a new one so they tarted up his old 93 motor

So thats been 11 days on the road 1 night at home 13 deliveries 3 pick ups and covered 8991 kilometres.
And thanks to the workshop who i booked a service with on Tuesday for Friday but they never bothered to book it in now sees me home untill Tuesday as its now being done Monday :imp: :imp: :imp: .

Nice one, don’t fancy those coils though, never had the misfortune to do them on the deck, thank ■■■■ :wink:

Ontario looks nice in the snow too, makes the sprinkling they’ve had here look a bit girly :wink:

Nianiamh, great photos and stuff. That sign for Hamilton on the 403 brought back memories for me. Back in 85-88 i used to run from
Cleveland Ohio to Montreal regularly. I have some friends from the same village back in the U.K. who settled in Burlington Ontario.If you ever have a chance, stop off there, as it as a large number of ex -pats, who know how to party. The famous Queen Elizabeth Way.
I must admit, I do not miss the cold winters, the proof being I live in Florida now.
Good luck for 2010, and to all fellow Brits who make the commitment to emmigrate, and start a new life.

Certainly brought back a few memories of traveling the eastern states, even bought an arabian horse in Cochrane. Is it still the place where all roads ends ? :wink:

Try 13 hours straight driving in a day.Not as bad as it sounds,we’ve less traffic.Couple of years ago before the rules changed,we were allowed 13 hours driving then a 4 hour break,then another 13 hours driving!!only once every seven days if I remember correctly.Did it loads of times if meant the difference between getting home or not.We’re pretty relaxed over here.

13hrs driving yes, but not in one go, not with a flatdeck, you have to stop every 3hrs for a load security check, but anything with a sealed load compartment can do 13hrs straight off, I’ve done it a couple of times myself, it’s not as hard as you would think, but jeez was I busting for a pee when I stopped :open_mouth:

The full rules in brief are 13hrs driving per day, followed by 10 off of which 8 must be in the bunk, this can be split but one period has to be at least 8hrs. You can do a maximum of 70hrs driving/other work in 7 days, to reset this clock you have 36hrs off & then you can start again, if you don’t need that you need 24hrs every 14 days.

In the USA it’s slightly different, 11hrs a day then 10 off with 8 in the bunk, you can split that, but it’s complicated & makes no sense, you can only do 70hrs in 8 days & the reset is 34hrs, there is no mandated 24hr break & as long as you don’t exceed your 70 in 8 you can run 365 days a year (366 this year)

Some companies run an electronic log, this logs everything in real time, others run a paper log, this allows a little bit of flexibility as the driver writes them out, some drivers log it as it happens, some log it off the odometer, for instance, if you run 350 miles in a state or province with a 70mph speed limit then it gets logged as 5hrs, it’s quite easy to maintain the speed limit so it’s not as fraudulent as it sounds, you may nick the odd 15mins here & there using this method.

Enforcement is not carried out by the Police, you rarely see them with a truck pulled over. The DOT, our version of VOSA operate Scales (weighbridges) as you enter & leave each state or province & have others dotted around (pardon the pun) When you get pulled in, which you will if it’s open, they check your DOT number & if your company has a bad record you will be pulled around the back for a check, they can just check your logs/truck or both, some companies have a pre-pass, this is a tag that also pays tolls, in this case it allows you to bypass the scale, the electronics read all your details & check your weight by weigh in motion sensors in the road as you approach & they don’t give pre-pass to naughty boys, some states do not recognise pre-pass & you have to run over these the same as everyone else, that in a nutshell is how the system works :wink:
