I was doing really well with this , diagnosed 6 yrs apx ago ) , just a couple of metaformin a day , hbc 38
Suddenly gone to 59 , no change in weight , diet etc , diabetic nurse said it’s a progressive illness that will get worse , probably have to go on more medication if it continues in a sharp upwards trajectory
Any one had this , I just can see a reason for it suddenly worsening after 6 yrs of seeming to have it under control
I’ve got type 3c .Which they point blank refuse to recognise even though the surgeon who was going to tear out my pancreas as an emergency, with a clearly stated to me 50/50 chance of survival, had told me and the GP that at best the damage caused by necrotising pancreatitis, would definitely leave me diabetic. But unbelievably it took over a year later to show up.Also the zb zb gall stones that caused it.
This type of diabetes causes spikes in Blood Sugar levels but is mostly normal with Metformin and Sitagliptin.I’ve been embroiled in a long term standoff regarding a move to insulin. My case is it will get no better and no worse and the figures prove it.They are relying on the average Blood Sugar test level which is obviously skewed by the nature and amount of spikes as opposed to the base background level.
Replacing Metformin and Sitagliptin with insulin with that is a certain recipe for hypos and might as well chuck my driving licence in the rubbish bin.Don’t know where this row will end up but they don’t want to hear any argument about quality of life in the short term compromising long term life expectancy.
But realistically it depends on the instant readings background base levels that you’re running at.Mine is around 5 or 6 most of the time and any spikes soon return to around that level.
But either way there is obviously a point where the risks of damage to nerves and eyes and vascular by high base levels outweigh everything else so insulin it has to be and then just hope for no hypos.
You learn something new every day carryfast , I thought there was only type 1/2 , they got me in for another diabetic check as they were a bit concerned , now 49 so going in the right direction , but no idea why it went up that high on previous test , going to hang off on more medication for now , which I’m pleased with as already rattle from tablets & I think dvla are starting to getting a bit jittery about me continuing to drive , not bothered about lorry lisense , but car I’d be gutted if they did take my entitlement off me
I get spikes anywhere between 15 or 20 then an hour later it’s back at 5 or 6 and holds there. The result of that on my average HB level is nuts. It’s reading 60 or more and that’s what they are going by.
If they try to bring that down to 40 let alone less and the spikes that are causing it back to 5, with insulin, it’s inevitable that one day or night I wouldn’t even wake up again let alone keep my licence.
The problem in my case is it’s not failed across the board it’s just a partly necrotised pancreas but the other part is ok and working fine. But they refuse to recognise it.
I think HB A1 it’s a counter productive even dangerous test regime. There’s no substitute for instant real time Blood Sugar tests although doing lots of them eventually makes fingers a bit sore but is what it is.
Even normal natural blood sugar control has spikes which can obviously then skew long term average readings. If the average HB AC measurement machines also aren’t right giving false high readings that’s even worse.
It’s low blood sugar levels which are the licence losers or even worse.Spikes or a bit higher than normal base line don’t have the unconsciousness dangers of hypo.Which is why artificial insulin dependence is a game changer in DVLA interest.Because it is so effective and fast in reducing blood sugar levels. If that is based on false exaggerated high readings all bets are off and that’s my argument with the quacks to stay off it.
There is also a question mark over the definitions of normal, or a bit elevated v dangerous high base line blood sugar levels being manipulated and creating the need for excessive medications.
Had a right old moan at me this week , walking ( feet ) are getting worse , I cheered my self up with a mars bar when I got out , wife less than impressed
It doesn’t seem to matter what I do it seems to be getting worse , but as she said it’s a progressive illness so no suprise.
