Can breath easy again for the next 5 yrs,was a bit worried as i never told DVLA i was type2,yet others told me i didn’t have to,so i thought i would leave it to fate, got my renewal back yesterday with a seperate note from DVLA telling me they investigated it and were happy to send me my new licence,i moan about the job (like a lot of others)but it’s all i know so if it had of been revoked i would have been well and truly stuffed, just have to hope i win the big one now on the euro within the next 5 yrs,lol

I am coming up for 75, and have been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic for some 8 years.
But with a bit of thought and hardly a lot of effort, altered my diet slightly,(The biggest thing was knocking alcohol on the head), and now every year when I have my blood test, I am below diabetic level and the doc puts on the D4, diet controlled type 2 diabetes, I’m not on any medication at all.
Always get my licence back no probs, with just a letter from the DVLA saying that if my condition changes, to inform them.

You’ve had a warning. If I was you I’d spend the next 5 years sorting out my finances (getting shot of any credit/paying down the mortgage etc) and maybe take some notice of what bestbooties has said.

Yes i have heard that if you lose weight among other things, they can take you off medication diabetes will never go away but a lot can be done to control it

Found out last November I had type 2
Since then I have lost 3 and a half stone and have another 2 and a half to lose - I was 22 and a half , I need to get down to 16 , I’m 18 and a half now .
Simple changes in diet - diet drinks , low fat and low sugar foods , cutting out sugar in tea and coffee and some medication have dropped my long term sugar levels from 137 to 53 ( HGA1b test ? ) Doc says if it gets to 48 or lower he will be very happy.
Just to make the diabetics happy (or very scared lol) the night I found out I had a Blood sugar level of 55 - its now down to 9 needs to be 4-8 .
if I can do it anyone can .

I found out I was Type 2 on Monday, so spent the last couple of days at the hospital or surgery getting things done. Finally got kitted out with my monitor today.

Because of the drugs I’m on I have to notify the DVSA, however, as I’ve been out of the saddle since June awaiting surgery, it’s not a big issue yet.

Found a great site for diabetics, really friendly and helpful with info on just about everything.

I had no idea anything was wrong with me at all. I had a blood test in January and am now not only type 2 diabetic but also have stage 4 prostrate cancer. Thinking of going for another blood test to see if I can make a hat trick  . Spending all my time in doctors and hospitals at present.
