DHL Sainsburies EK

Hi folks, have an interview & driving assessment for DHL Sainsburies at there Eastkilbride depot. Just wondering if anyone knows what gets asked at the interview and how strict are they with bay reversing? Most of my experience so far has been trunking with minimal reversing so I’m a wee bit worried about the bay reverse at the moment.

The only way out of your situation is practise. Lots of it.

On a trunk run could you stop at an empty service station in the middle of the day and practice reversing into a space?

They will be looking for you to be safe so if you need to take a few shunts so be it rather than just hashing about. Just make sure the vehicle is safe when you get out and are aware of your surroundings/tugs etc

I’d he slightly less concerned about reversibf at s DHL site. Generally they dint seem to have an issue with giving people additional training and all that, but obviously he honest on assessment and say you’re not fully experienced.

Back in the say when I was assessing if someone said they’d not long passed etc I’d tend to look less at their reversing and stuff like that and more then their approach and attitude because if those two are right then all it takes is time and understanding to get the rest right, and that woukd include telling the ■■■■■ in the office to cut some people some slack for a bit.

Generally with DHL it’s all about being a safe driver.

On my driving assessment (class 2) I literally drove around at 5/10mph around town. Make sure you drive with 2 hands on the steering wheel and whatever you do - don’t clip a kerb.

Be polite and show your willing to learn. Good luck.

make sure you know the highway code and driver’s hours! as has been said, tell them your not too hot on reversing. also, dhl have gone microlise mad :frowning: so don’t do any harsh brakes on your assessment…oh,and have plenty of ink in your pen…there’ll be loads of forms to fill out.
Good Luck!

Have your assessment done at a weekend or in the evening after rush-hour, if possible.
Why? - You’ll automatically get a “Overdriving” failure at every single busy roundabout - on account that it is busy.
(I wouldn’t recommend trying to use cruise control to pull out into moving traffic, and it is flooring your accelerator pedal that causes the “Warning: Overdriving” event, followed quickly by “Recorded: Overdriving”.

It has been said above that DHL have gone “Microlise-Mad”, but do they have a special bonus scheme for people that consistently get A ratings at the end of their shifts, day-in, day out?

Yeah seen a notice about that. Best driver gets £25? Most improved driver gets £25? Something like that.

I might have a chance to win the second one, because i’m on the bottom of the list. £25 woohoo!

Thank you all for the replies! Had the interview today and did ok with some minor points of improvement pointed out that I can use to be more fuel efficient in my driving.

Sadly the reverse let me down as I just don’t have enough experience doing it. I plan to hop onto agency work and get as much reversing experience as possible so that I won’t let myself down going forward.

Thanks all!

yes banging on about fuel efficiency…we get that…though nothing is said to the office bods that send us miles out of our way to pick up a collection, only to find it’s already been collected! often happens :unamused:
