DHL.......oh dear!

"well now the chickens are coming home to roost,” said Mick Rix, National Officer of trade union GMB. “Bidvest are specialists—a food distribution firm with years of experience. DHL are scratching around for any work they can get, and undercut them.”

Mick Rix doesn’t know what the hell he’s on about. I would hazard a guess that DHL’s operations make Bidvest look like a local tinpot one man band in comparison.

Conor i think you got those fact arse about face…Bidfest make DHL look like a tin pot one man band…at least Bidfest didnt force hundreds of KFC outlets to close…why fix it when it aint broken is my motto.

Bidvest have over 100,000 employees too, they specialise in food service.

I was referring to Bidvest.

This is the same Bidvest which max’s drivers hours, at Oldham they used to plan drivers for 4 x 15 hours per week (3x days off). .
What’s the union’s view on 60 hour shifts, driver hand balling 10 ton of food and drink up and down stairs into KFC, Pizza Express etc everyday.

Keeps you fit! Unless one of your 15’s has a 3 hour break somewhere in the shift then that’s illegal on the information you’ve given. Is that why you used the phrase “used to”? Why don’t you ask the union, which no doubt, you are a member of, what they think? If you’re a member of that union they might ask for your support in tackling such issues, perhaps initially by expressing your views personally to management and at your union branch meeting in order to gain support for your views from your colleagues as well as your union. Then maybe have a ballot for possible industrial action, maybe going so far as being willing to strike to support your union in its attempts to settle your grievances.

Whaddya fink?

Quite right I used to love it when I was younger, too used to the easy life now though.

And KFC and everyone else still want their tonne trolleys of chicken on the roof whoever the haulier or colour of the vehicles

My point is what are the unions doing about excessive working hours, nothing!

3x reduced daily rest between weekly rest period. If 3 days rest are split 2 & 1 you can work 4 x 15.

You’ve missed the point brother…unions are fairly toothless if the members are unwilling to show sufficient support…you didn’t mention split rest days…

What is the union supposed to do, if people want to work long hours its entirely up to them (usually its for money and you can’t blame anyone for wanting to earn), they’d be jumping up and down if the union said no.
The union isn’t some collective mummy wiping runny noses, the union is the workers at any place of employment who form themselves into a union…can’t be arsed doing your bit, being a decent union member? don’t complain about the headlong race to the bottom.
The union suits are there as mouthpieces, they aren’t the real union in most cases, though in rare examples they are genuine union people no better example being the late Bob Crow, who never forgot where he came from nor his raison d’etre…the members and their elected stewards are the union who get things done.

There’s always the option of finding another job that is paid properly for sensible hours, unfortunately too many bods can’t help themselves taking the ■■■■ out of the remaining good jobs (sickies, the defect scam to get out of second runs, you name it) hastening their demise and the reason why these logistics operators (some of which are parasites, some of which couldn’t run a ■■■■ up in a brewery) have taken over.

The wise man has spoken.

Dragging the job out unnecessarily with the view ‘im hourly paid so why should i care/bother’ is another classic one…
