Good luck, make sure you are there early, makes a good impression with all relevant paperwork and looking proffesional. A shave and a smile go a long way!
Ooooops, double post
dar1976:
Just got a call from the agency. Got an assessment tomorrow afternoon. 2pm. Let’s hope I don’t screw it up
Good luck, that assessment was a long time coming.
It’s a mixture of good news and bad news. I passed the assessment.
I had 3 minor marks. 1 was for leaning on the steering wheel. 1 was for flashing a lorry driver in on the motorway. And the final one was mirrors. I started off being nervous as hell. It showed. About 5 minutes in I started chatting to him and he was proving he was human. Great conversation. But then apparently my mirrors started getting sloppy. But overall a good drive he said.
Then a load of H&S crap… sorry… training lol. Followed by an hours, highway code, H&S test. 27 out of 30. Not bad at all.
The bad news is they have no vacancies at the moment so it will just be adhoc work from the agency.
Oh and although I had CE on my licence they only did a rigid assessment.
So I’m over the moon that I passed. But a bit gutted there is no work. Oh and although it’s a DHL assessment, it doesn’t follow across their sites
Time for a beer or three

I’m chuffed for you that you passed OK
But I have to ask, leaning on the steering wheel on an assessment
I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be leaning on it with your forearms on an assesment so in what way was you leaning on the steering wheel ?

Did the agency tell you that the job would be temp to perm, the reason I ask is because if they didn’t then you was almost certainly sent there to do the assessment so you could work there through the agency not directly for DHL.
Look on the bright side, it’s paying work
I admit to being unprofessional and when waiting at traffic lights I had my elbows on the steering wheel.
Agency said it would be temporary ongoing work.
I am looking on the bright side that it is a lead to work in a very dry market.

Nothing to do with professionalism, but unless the assessor is a personal friend you don’t want to be doing that on an assessment mate
Still a lesson learned and all that

I agree and to be honest I didn’t notice I was doing it until he had pointed it out. Although I had my hands at ten to two my arms were draped across the wheel. He said I should be ready to go when the lights change. A fair point I guess.
Anyway. It’s a big tick in the box and hopefully some work will come out of it soon
Congratulations, good news, there not all that bad then

Yep, congrats. They didn’t have the Hazard Perception Test when I did my PCV, but they did for the HGV and I just scraped through too.
Is there a reason you’re doing your PCV??

I have the PCV, after driving a truck, not sure you’d ever want to drive a passenger carrying vehicle.
I could understand if you said it was to take your kids ‘dance club’ to meetings or something, even then it wouldn’t be worth the headache.
Good luck with it, but it might be worth asking local bus companies, many would put you through it, and pay you wages whilst training too.

Already applied to FirstBus.
Just waiting for an answer. They are recruiting at my 2 local depots.
Just thought I’d get the theories done in the meantime.
And yes I am sure I’ll get to take the dance class out for their annual outing.
Oh and also means I could buy a limo and do the hen nights
