Dhl boots move!

I have a start with dhl at boots beeston, notts, early june, anyways i gets a phonecall yesterday off agency and we got talking,i mentioned my new job etc etc and was told that dhl are moving to burton in the old littlewoods depot on centrum 100,anybody know of this rumour or is it just that :exclamation: ,did wonder if that is the case are they taking on drivers purely for this move only to be made rendundant after 6 to 12 months. :exclamation:

They are supposed to be comeing to Burton a lot of work is happining inside the building at the moment will have to wait and see if they bring drivers with them nothing advetised yet

Boots are certainly opening a depot in Burton.

My old man is on that contract and he hasnt said owt, they are setting on 20 odd more drivers to this month. I think I will wind him up now and tell him what I have “heard” :sunglasses:

Yes mate definatly movin to centrum 100 estate, there is a big sign gone up this week outside saying boots opening in this site soon. it is located dead opposite dhl tradeteam warehouse.

yep seen it today,my question is though, what are they doing,is it just going to be an rdc? or are they moving transport from notts to burton?are they shutting notts down?be ideal for me living south derby.

are the moving because ever time they re-plant the grass a driver comes along and mounts the grass bank

According to my Dad they arent moving any notts drivers, its for the the interntaional work so you will still be working from notts im afraid :stuck_out_tongue:
Of course they could of told him that to keep him sweet but he reckons not so rumour solved

They have had a high turn over of staff this year according to my dad so they are using agencies. PDRS and ADR network are the main ones. Rate is £8.50 straight mon to sat and £14 I think on sundays. He thinks its alright if you dont mind driving deckers but they work tue to sat or sun to mon if you go on dhl books which doesnt suit most. You can do what you like on agency obviously but from what my dad’s mate has told him he does 8-10 hours a day mon to fri so money not great but suits hi fine.

bit of an update lads, ive been there for nearly seven months now and there are good days and bad days really,my start time is always around 0700 give or take an hour so not a bad start time,tues-sat shift pattern, now the job in itself is fairly straight forward, turn up get keys plate and paperwork, vehicle checks, trailer checks, hookup, weighbridge and away you go.
The routes i seem to get are greenwich, basingstoke, dunstable, on a good day even with a greenwich you can get done in your 9.6hrs but these good days are not very often, for example you can turn up at 0700hrs for your run but have to wait in canteen for a unit to become available and this can take upto 3hrs! this is where it gets bad, what should happen is your run is shortened and a fresh start driver would get the greenwich,(makes good sense)but depending what is available you could quite easily be stuck on the greenwich run and be on a 12+hr shift easily.
All in all im fairly happy there and to be honest it is not very often i go over 48hrs a week, would like to be at coop with my mate who does same sort of job but on £29k pa.There are 100+ drivers here so 1 or 2 leaving now and again is about the norm really, you have to be on top with your hours too because there are times when you get really close not only to your 4.5 but your 10 and your 15 if you get stuck,
good points- bad points-
decent money waiting for units
straight forward work transport not allways looking out for you
23days holiday+bh traffic!!!i hate traffic(nothing you can do about this though)
flexible start times
variety of runs
